Works great
Used as a Time Machine backup drive for an iMac. Plugged it in, hooked up USB cable, and it worked fine from the first minute. No glitches. May get another for a second backup.

Just what I needed.
Easy to use. Compact and unobtrusive. I think I've said all I have to say, but this system says I have to write more. I hope this suffices.

WD My Book 1TB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive
Great value, quick and easy to use. Since this drive is formatted for the Mac, everything was a breeze. I took it out of the box, plugged it into my usb port and time machine took over.

Work's Great
I had picked up this model after returning my Seagate GoFlex 2T. Before I get into the WD I would like to warn future customers on getting the Seagate GoFlex product. When my Mac went into sleep mode the Seagate would shut down and the only way to get it to run again was to unplug the USB. As a side note I googled this issue and found many more people with the exact same problem. Even then it was not working correctly as it was not syncing with Time Machine and was locking up my hard drive. Seagate customer service was a joke. I called Apple and after changing some settings it still would not work. Buyer beware on the Seagate. On to the WD. This unit is working excellent and other then a few issues when installing that were a little confusing I found it to work properly and am extremely happy.

It just works and it's not terribly expensive
I needed an external drive as a backup to a new internal drive I was installing in my iMac. Since Western Digital had built up a name for reliability and value over the years, I looked only for their products. I was pleased to find they had a drive formatted for Mac, and it was competitively priced as well. Installation was as easy as plugging it in and turning it on. Transfer speeds were pretty good for USB 2.0 when doing a full back up. It's likely not as quick as the Firewire port on my iMac, but I just needed it for the occasional backup, so I saved money on the less expensive USB 2.0 interface. When running, the drive is super quiet. What is also cool is that it turns on and off automatically when it is needed. No need to reach around to turn it on every time I want to use it. Even so, I leave it turned off an unplugged since I only run it for a monthly backup of my internal hard drive.

Works well if you get a good one.
This was very easy to put on my MAC computer you don't have to reconfigure anything. It does put an icon on your desktop that I haven't found a way to get rid of. The reason I said fair performance is because the first one I bought didn't work, so I returned it to Best Buy and they gave me another one and it works perfectly. Lay it flat for the best performance and longevity.

It crashed...
...the second time I used it. I returned it and Best Buy swapped me into another brand name (which has not failed me). Content could not be recovered. I would recommend you consider another manufacturer.

No-brainer
I purchased this hard drive to back up our wedding photos. Since we had about 2800 high resolution JPEG and RAW files coming our way, we decided to buy a hard drive for the transfer. I had the hard drive shipped out to my Photographer's city, where they were able to pick it up in-store without a problem. Our photographer let me know that the initial file transfer took about 3-4 hours. Once the hard drive was shipped back to me, I transferred the files to my imac in under an hour. I've been using the hard drive frequently ever since to back up photos and files. Very fast, quiet, easy to use and reliable. We made a good choice!

WOW!!!
How much easier can it get. Plug it into your Airport Extreme, turn on your Mac, hit Time Machine and Viola everything is backed up. And with 2T I will never run out of back up space.

Unreliable product
Based on positive customer reviews on Best Buy, I purchased this drive for use with Time Machine on my MacBook Pro. It seemed like a great price for the storage size. I was sorely disappointed when the drive failed after less than one week. The drive mounted properly initially and seemed to work seamlessly with Time Machine but after 3 days, it inexplicably stopped working. It would no longer turn on, just died! Perhaps I received a defective device; however, I returned the drive since I no longer trust this product for my backup needs. Additionally, I found the included WD software to be annoying and uneccessary.

jury is still out...
After exhaustive research and returning a more expensive Seagate product to Staples that the salesperson had "hardsold" me (which in the end was NOT Mac compatible without reformatting) I decided to purchase this particular product from BestBuy. The store near my house did not have it in stock so I called ahead to another BestBuy farther away from home. I Picked it up no problem and was given the online sale price when I asked for it. Relieved and excited to finally solve my storage problems, I got it home and hooked it up........nothing! Called WD tech support and after wasting more time going through the checks that I had already done on my own, was told that I had a defective unit. Needless to say, my frustration tolerance has been pushed to the limit! I intend to return the defective unit and give the same product one more chance... My head may explode if it doesn't work...

Easy!
So far so good! It was a breeze to set up. When you plug the drive in, your Mac will ask if you want to use it with Time Machine. Click yes and it starts backing up. That's it!

Great Investment for the Drive
The hard drive is very easy to use. I really like the password feature to allow the drive to be locked. I like it so much I bought a second smaller WD drive dedicated for 'Time Machine' on my mac.

Belly UP!!!!
This maybe one in a million but what luck would have it as I lost 2 MAC backups (approx 1/2 full). All loaded up good. Accessed a week later = great. Needed to pull something from it again about 2 weeks later and BAM!! Belly up it went. Back and forth w/ WD. They said it was a power source problem. Another week goes by, new power source. No longer powered up and cannot retrieve all that was lost. WD advised they don't do data recovery and recommended a company charging over $300 to retrieve the info. Four years of photos from my digital library gone and not to mention cd's that take only 2 seconds to download (yea right). I will be returning it to Best Buy. I'm within the 90 days. I actually started correspondence w/ WD within 3 weeks of the purchase and really tried to get it to work. I don't think I will be exchanging it for another WD Drive. My 2 cents (or dollars).

easy and simple and quick
The drive works wonderfully and takes up so little space. I am glad it has it's own power supply as I was worried that my laptop with all its other devices would not have enough power for external harddrive. I was a little disheartened that the software does not work with mac ox10.3 sincerely, Sandra

Easy to Use for a Mac Powerbook
purchased this drive on sale at $109 - this is the newer version of the WD My Book drive specifically for the Mac - it was simple and fast to set up -didn't require any additional software since it works with time machine- the first backup of about 100GB went faster than I expected - I purchased one for each of my kid's macbook pros - I know eventually one will get lost, stolen, or broken - these are a cheap insurance policy against lost pictures, documents and whatever else my kids are saving.

Great product, great value
I got 3 of them so I can back everything up as well as share my media selection. I have 250 gigs of music and 400 gigs of video, I would be devastated if it was lost. This ensures it is all backed up!!
