  • It is great with this camera

It is a real very good camera, very easy to use, and great pictures. the len is wonderful. It is lighter than a reflex, perhaps the difference is in the definition.

  • Excellent distance, Great price, Quality images

I call this my sniper lens. This lens really allows me to take close up photos of just about anything without interfering with the game, letting the kids know I am there, or tipping my dog off that I am snapping a photo of her being naughty. The only downside is that you can't easily transition from taking photos of items up close to far away. You really need to change lenses for images in the same space as you, unless you like the super up close, I can see your nose hairs type of images.

  • Good for the normal budget and do its work.

I have used this lens with Sony a390, it could take wonderful photos, easy to use, and it does not break your pocket. There is one issue that it dose not give the desire result when the target consists of both black and white. This problem might be notice when you enlarge the picture. However, the other colors are all natural. Overall, it is sharp enough to deliver a convincing and satisfactory photo.

  • Nice Way To Expand Your Field

A smooth-to-operate zooming mechanism, plus very good optics. Does well in both auto and manual focus. Mounts quickly. The only problem I had was getting used to the new generation of focus rings. They are much narrower than the rings on my film camera SLRs.

  • Best friend to your Sony DSLR

Got this lens in a package with the Sony a390 and lowepro 170 bag. My wife and I are gearing up for a vacation and some sight-seeing. I find the pictures taken using this lens are high quality and the lens/camera's steady shot provide enough anti-vibration to be used without a tri-pod. Very happy with this purchase and I would go as far to say this lens is a must have for anyone wanting a DSLR to take photo's of wild-life. We are just photo enthusiasts, so if you are a pro and getting paid for your pictures you may want to look into Sony's high end lenses. Otherwise buy this lens and dont look back, great addition to my amazing a390 Sony DSLR camera.

  • The best your money can buy

I was not very excited to have a Sony, but finally after I postpone for a life the decision to buy a DSLR camera, my wife took the step and bought me a Sony A230L. I opened the camera and right after I felt in love. I got this lenses after tested the camera and decided that its perfect for me, yesterday I went to take some pictures and I took some good pictures of generic subjects. The image quality is really good, the auto focus is fast enough and the compound is light weight. The best for the price! I am really happy.

  • Really nice value Lens

The lens could be quieter and have faster autofocus but for that price it never would. It is a great companion for a Sony SLR and you should look for it in a package deal. You want this. For sure.

  • Very nice lens

I found this lens very easy to use. The grip is made out of a nice soft rubber, making it comfortable to use. The lens is not rugged though, so I would caution those who need it to be.

  • easy to use

Easy to use and lightweight. I use a UV filter on all my lenses to cut down on glare and they offer protection to the lens. Only problem is the time it takes to re focus on subject .

  • Great long-range zoom at low price

Not only a great lightweight long-range zoom, but also close focusing for macro work. Since the image stabilization is built into the camera with the Alpha camera system, you don't pay a premium for image stabilization (also called vibration reduction) in the lens. For macro work, you can focus at 4 feet. This lets you fill a frame with a flower or insect without having to be close to the subject. A tripod is recommended, even the image stabilization system can't cope with camera shake in these conditions. Curved aperture blades create a smooth, pretty looking out-of-focus background. It takes a few seconds to rack out to close focus when you turn the camera on, and the front of the lens is rotating while this is happening. I'm not sure how it could be made faster without adding $100s to the price, so I'm glad they didn't try. If you are using a polarizing filter to reduce glare the rotating lens will annoy you. Use a circular polarizer or readjust after focusing. These are minor points. All in all I am very impressed with this lens.

  • The Best

I just picked up this lens. I used it for about 2 hours and the pictures...superb I saw it and even asked "are you sure that's the correct price?" Once I was told yes, It was mine. This is my second telephoto lens. (the first was way over $400) If you can still find it BUY it! !

  • Incredible lens

Priced great as is, I got it for 100 less as part of a package deal and have been very happy with it's performance. Blows away some of the others that cost 50-150 more. Perfect companion for a Sony Alpha

  • Fantastic Lens

I bought this lens and took it out to the Grand Canyon. Got some amazing shots of the canyon floor and river from the ridge. The Sony Alpha made changing the lens a snap. The included lense baffel kept light distortion to a minimum. A fantastic buy for under $250. A plus is the camera envy you get from having a professional camera with the telephoto attached. Several times throughout the day people remarked on how nice our camera was. Can't imagine what kind of pictures we would have come back with if we only took a camera phone with us like many other people. The lens also worked well for long distance action shots at a baseball game. I recommend getting a tripod for best results.

  • It was there just for me.

The $229 price tag is great, but I found mine @BB for 50 bucks off due to open box, and the lens is perfect. It's a great lens and the Alpha system as a whole is quite versatile in the hands of a creative photographer. thisisphotography.blogspot.com

  • Can't believe this is a "consumer" grade lens!

Prequel: I am coming from a strict Nikon background and due to having my $4000 kit(D80, 3 VR, 3 2.8 pro lenses, etc) stolen out of my car, am starting all over again. That being said, I don't have $4000 to plop down at once, so I decided to get an "entry to mid-level" system. After many internal battles, I decided to try something new and go with the Alpha system. My thoughts were if things didn't work out with this setup, I haven't spent that much and could use it for a nice carry-around camera. So far I see absolutely NO reason to go back to Nikon. Yes, this system is THAT good. Sony 75-200mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens: Wow. I sincerely cannot BELIEVE this lens is only $229! As many reviews point out, this lens has virtually ZERO distortion from 75mm all the way up to 300mm and purple fringing(CA) is contained nicely. Needless to say, for a lens at this price point to preform this well is unheard of. This lens combined with the super quick AF of the a200 is a perfect marriage. I compared this to the super sharp Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR(all my buddies still use Nikon), and although the Nikon is a bit sharper and performs better in low light, the IQ difference is surprisingly small. I can highly recommend this lens and the Sony Alpha system as a whole!

  • BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!

I don't know why this lens is so cheap here. It's a downright amazing piece of equipment to use during the day, or in very bright situations. I highly recommend a good tripod, but if you have the alpha 100 already then it's likely you have a stand. For the price that Best Buy is offering this lens, I almost bought 2 thinking it must've been some sort of mistake.
