  • Great for the price

    This item is super easy to use. For the cost, you cant beat it. It's perfect for quick (up-close) videos. It doesn't have a great zoom so if you plan on using this to record a child's program etc. get there early and sit in the front. I got it originally to submit video exams to my professor for my ASL class. The video quality is amazing. I'd highly recommend this to anyone.

  • Overpriced!

    You can't pause during recording. You can only "start" and "stop" your video. I get as good of quality with my cheap cell phone plus I can pause my videos while recording with my cell phone!

  • Lightweight Travel Video Camera

    My only comment is: why in the world would anyone want to buy an ultraportable video camera that needs to be plugged into a computer to be charged? I travel without a computer in my backpack; i should be able to recharge without using a computer. This is a problem with some other electronics like mp3 players. Why do we need to ge to a computer to recharge? I returned mine after a vacation that had me going back and forth to my computer since the charge didn't last as long as promised. What happened to the models that used batteries you could replace on the spot?

  • Glad I waited till it got so cheap :-)

    Great product. Cisco is brain-dead to stop manufacturing the Flip. Software installation and initial-use experience was a little clunky on my Mac -- I was surprised, since this is the latest generation of this product (you'd think the Flip/Cisco user-experience folks would've been a little more clued in). But, hey -- it works, it produces great HD videos, it's small/lightweight, and will remain a key tool that I carry in my briefcase for interviews I do at conferences, or at one-on-one meetings. The value for the price I paid is over-the-top! (I wonder how many of these FlipHDs are even left in the pipeline? Go get one if you can!)

  • I use it everyday!

    The Flip Video UltraHD Cam is such and AWESOME camera to use! I practically use it every day to film videos for my YouTube collaboration channel or my personal YouTube channel. The picture quality is excellent, very easy to use, and the battery is rechargeable so you don't have to worry about buying new batteries all the time! Then the program that the Flip Cam comes with allows you to take snapshots of a video you took at any moment in the video that you want! I'm even considering on buying another one just in case anything ever happens to the one that I already have!

  • Camera works really well, software is a glitchy

    Camera is good and easy to use. The image quality and sound are decent for the price (<$100) and I'm generally pleased with the quality of the movies obtained. The software is on the buggy side and I find on my Mac that it routinely closes without warning or has trouble finding my library on an external HD. When happy, it sends movie via email well so it does that part well. Haven't any of the other feature of the Flipshare software. For the price, I'm pretty pleased with the camera and have had fun using it. There's a weird thing when you first connect to the camera where you have to jump through some hoops to get the battery to charge but otherwise, it's been extremely easy to use.

  • Fun and easy camera

    I like the camera, its super easy to use and takes very nice videos. Even the audio is better than I expected. I wish it would zoom in closer and the software keeps saying it cannot update because I am not connected to the internet (I am connected every time) which is VERY irritating. Besides those 2 things, its great and inexpensive.

  • Great camera, very easy to use!

    We purchased this camera to make music videos and home movies of our pets and it's great! The interface is very easy to use and to download to YouTube, FB or Flipshare is a cinch. . The picture quality is very good, but you have to hold the camera very still, as the image stabilization is not as good as in more expensive cameras. The sound however is excellent, especially when recording live music. We are very pleased with the camera and would highly recommend it!

  • Great little HD video camera.

    This camera is simple to use and has a fantastic picture. I think the video is amazing for such a small and inexpensive camera. I am sad to see Cisco discontinue the Flip as it is a teriffic platform. My only complaint is that I wish it had a more powerful zoom. Other than that if you need a super cheap and easy HD video camera you should buy it!

  • Got my moneys worth

    Have only used it a few times but its great so far. Clarity is great, and easy to use. Lightweight. I do wish it would zoom in a little more but I feel I got my moneys worth overall. The wrist strap it comes with already broke so be careful. Thankfully it happened while in my bag and not on my wrist.

  • Great Picture, horrible battery

    I bought this and took it home and put it on the charger for 3 hours per the instructions. After 3 hours it woudn't even turn on so i had to put in AAA bateries to get it to power up. When i called tech support (in India) there were neither surprised about the issue nor very helpful. I had to call back three times before they would agree to replace it. Its been gone for 3 weeks and the replacement still has not arrived. No wonder Cisco is discontinuing the entire line of these. With the AAA bateries it takes great quality video so I am hopeful with a new battery all will be fine.

  • perfect for fun videos

    Exactly what I was looking for. Easy to use with only a couple buttons. Easy to carry around. I took it to a wedding and fit it easily in my bag and got some great videos of the ceremony and reception Zoom is a nice feature on it. Doesn't do too well in dim lighting since it has no light but that's fine. easy to plug into your computer. Overall, a great buy for anyone looking for something other than a camera to capture the fun moments in life!

  • Great little pocket video camera

    If you don't have a good video camera option on you cell phone this little guy is great for giving you those instant video capture experiences. Picture quality is good and the sound capture is great. I don't have video capture on my cell phone so this is an easy way to get that option. Battery life is great so far. Down loading was easy. My concern, seem to get choppy video in low light conditions.

    I got tired of spending hundreds of dollars on camcorders that offered poor picture quality and poor battery life. This is an easy-to-use camera that makes it easy to upload video. Built-in battery is a nice upgrade, as is HD. This also works well in low-light situations. Zoom length is low, but I didn't buy this product for the lens.

  • For the busy new parents.

    I purchased this model back about a year ago for my fiance to capture all the stuff that my son did because I'm kind of a workaholic. This is such an easy point and shoot camcorder. The features are kind of lacking compared to a actual camcorder. The 2x zoom leaves something to be desired but the crisp HD quality more than makes up for it if your close enough. The thing that surprised me the most was the sound quality for such a small device. But the main purpose of this device is portability and ease of use. Other reviews mention the software has issues but I have yet to encounter those. The software in my opinion is just super cool with all the options for editing and sharing that you have. Bottom line, perfect for the on the go busy movie maker and new parents wanting to not miss a thing.

  • Awesome video for catching those precious moments.

    Having heard various reviews regarding the Flip Video Ultra HD Camcorder, I was not sure if this little camera would deliver. I was pleasently surprised at the quality of the video, the ease of use for the low cost of this wonder. It recharges quickly and the battery lasts quite a while. A great buy. I recently recorded our daughter's wedding, outside in a beautiful park in WA State and it turned out beautifully.

    Nothing fancy here , just point and shoot recording. Perfect for what I needed but some buyers may need more features. Upload to Facebook and YouTube application is slow but works well. All in all it was a good purchase.

  • Could be better

    It's a great camera with great details the only problem with the camera is that the zoom. The problem with the zoom is that there is no zoom. Then there's flu share which is the editing program and it sucks. I could do better editing with standard computer software. I would suggests this if you have your own editing software because it's great quality camera for the price.

  • cheap's not good if it doesn't work

    Considering that my cell phone can record video (albeit of low-quality) I don't think it's unreasonable to find a fairly low-tech, easy-to-use flip video camera for under $100. So on the one hand, it's "you-get-what-you-pay-for" but this recorder still might not work even if I spent several thousand dollars on it. My main beef with these kinds of recorders - and I don't know when THIS became the trend - is that there are barely any instructions beyond the "here's the power button, record button, etc." diagram. What the "manual" (lol) DID say was that the camera came pre-charged in a limited capacity so that you could at least do an initial set-up. However, the thing didn't even turn on -- even when I charged it overnight. I don't care how little I pay for a camera -- it should at least turn on. I'll be quite embarrassed if somehow I'm not pushing the correct power button, but that is something that the instructions DID make clear. (If I'm at fault, I'll edit this review, if possible.) I'm truly glad others here have had positive experiences with the camera, but I didn't. It's good to get all sides. It's really disappointing to buy a simple-to-use camera that you should be able to just charge and turn on, and it doesn't work. Next time, I'm going to have them turn it on for me at Best Buy. Maybe the battery is dead... already?

  • Fun and easy camcorder.

    I love my camcorder and find myself "filming" almost every day. I highly recommend the two hour one like I have. I have a hard time filling it up but when I get close I transfer the clips to my laptop and either save them to a SD card or burn a DVD. I use my windows movie maker in my laptop. The software you get with the flip is good too. It lets you add music and edit the clips and take snapshots. Easy to post to YouTube or FB. So far I've had a lot of fun with it. It came with pouch and strap. I bought the magnetic lens and a few accessories for it too.

  • Serves a purpose - just not mine

    I recently purchased this when my regualr video camera died right before my twins graduated from kindergarten. Even sitting in the second row the zoom was terrible. I understand that this is not supposed to replace a full size video camera, but between my canon powershot with video capabilities and my iphone which also takes great video - I see no purpose in adding an extra piece of equipment that takes less detailed (albiet longer) video to my already full purse. I returned this.

  • Love having HD video in a pocket-sized camera!

    This camera has been fantastic to carry around on family outings. It's compact enough to fit in your pocket like a point-and-shoot yet it shoots HD video that is excellent quality. Image stabilization is a must-have and this camera does not let you down in that area. The only thing - and I mean ONLY thing is I wish the zoom was better than 2x but at the price, size and quality, it's a small sacrifice. Overall - I'm thrilled with our Flip!

    OYE! Filmmakers... Well its sad to see that this camera is being discontinued by Cisco, this is my 5th Flip Camera... I use them for Freelance Shoots, and 13 of my Flip Videos are the top Favorited videos on the Ovation channel... http://community.ovationtv.com/FilmGuru The Ease and use of the camera is great the 3rd Generation camera uses 3 AAA batteries as opposed to the 2nd generation which uses 2 AA's. Again BLUE Microphone's "Mikey" plans have been Abandoned (for now) to provide an External microphone for this camera... A nice wide angle lens attachment is still available and can add depth to all your shots!!! Best Buy is the Best Place to purchase the camera, I would recommend Purchasing the Accidental Death Insurance from Geek Squad... Happy Shooting! -The Blond One-

  • Handy Product

    The flip video is handy for all sorts of purposes. We use it mainly to take candid video of our dogs (who are very silly), but also to film the condition of our rental properties in MD after tenants leave. Easy to use, well-constructed and simple to hookup to a laptop, it's hard ot beat for the price. I'd like it if the flip-video had a slightly better picture and zoom features, but they are at least more than adequate as is. Great option if you don't want to spend the money on an SLR.

  • This is our third one, love them

    We bought our 1st one when the price was quite a bit higher. Then the manufacturer decided they wouldn't make them anymore and the price dropped significantly. We purchased 3 more, gave one away as a gift for a new grandpa. Really simple to use. Point, push the red button, and film to your hearts content. Great for vacation, taking movies of the kids, anything. Easily downloads onto your computer. You can even hook it up to your TV and watch your movies on there. You won't be disappointed.

    Every feature is excellent except for a long distant, not much zoom power. Much improvement of battery life. Almost enough for 2 hrs. of shooting. I have the 2nd generation that lasts only 30 min.

  • Good value for the money

    I have had this camcorder about a month and so far have only used it at my son's baseball games. It is very easy to use. I should have brought it to the Elvis Costello concert this week but forgot (everyone was recording video on their cell phones). My only negative comment is there is a very limited zoom. But all in all a very good value for the money.

  • Lovely Camcorder, Terrible Flip Share

    This camcorder is fun and easy to use. You just pull it out, turn it on, and film. Unfortunately the battery life is disappointing and the Flip Share program is terrible. It is slow and shuts down frequently. It almost makes the camcorder not worth it. Still, I've filmed a lot of memories with this camera and will continue to.

  • Doesn't live up to it's reputation

    I puchased the Flip after all my friends said this is the one to get. I wanted to record my son in the band so it needs to work well in doors and with low light. I just tested it in my house. Yes it is easy to use, but that is about it. The picture quality is not there at all unless I was recording very close. In fact I would expect it to be blury at those close moments but those were the clear pictures. It was very grainy and the zoom is extremely limited. When playing back the video on the computer the first time I got about 20 seconds then it blew my out of the video. On second attempt it did play the whole 2 1/2 minutes, but the picture lagged behind the sound. I think the sound was pretty good and that is the most important for what I want. I was considering the Kodak Playful and I might still consider that. I am going to test the flip at a concert tonight. If the sound quality is there when recording an orchestra, I may accept that for $129 this is the picture you are going to get.

  • Cisco Shut Down Flip

    I bought this for $129 at the time. It developed a couple issues that made it unusable after updating the software. After trying to contact someone to replace it under warranty, I was told the Flip division of Cisco shut down. Therefore, it can't be replaced. My question is why is Best Buy selling this product when it can't possibly be covered by their in store replacement plan, or replaced by Cisco? When it did work, it was just fine and performed as expected. But, without viable warranty replacement or coverage, the value isn't there at full price. You can't possibly charge full price for the Flip products. Shame on you Best Buy.

    This is the Best Camera . It's very easy to use. It has great Software. I've had all 3 different generation Flip Cameras now. I bought this one to upgrade from the 2nd generation camera because it has Image Stablization, It films in 60 FPS, and it has a better battery .   • GREAT Camera for Moms on the GO!

    I. LOVE. THIS. CAMERA! While I was looking at them in the store I wasn't crazy about it and was leaning more towards the Mini because of the size. After buying it and actually holding it the size is not an issue at all. The security contraption that they had on it in the store was, to me, misleading. Now I use this camera ALL the time because it's so small I can literally take it everywhere we go! My favorite feature would have to be how fast the camera powers up. One click and 3 seconds later and we're filming! Once we're home and I'm ready to upload it's no time before my videos are up for sharing with family and friends! I love it, my family loves it, and you'll love it too!

  • Good for parents of young children

    I'll likely trade up when my children get bigger (not sure I'd try to video a basketball game) with this camera. However, the picture quality is good and it couldn't be easier to use. Great for capturing all the "firsts" and easily fits in a purse or diaper bag.

  • Not very versatile

    The Flipvideo Ultra HD works well in natural light, but under fluorescent lights there is a "flip" or "flicker" that is quite distracting and ruins the otherwise excellent video. Customer/Technical services is pretty bad--if they don't know the answer or can't solve the problem they either make up an answer or don't get back to you. When they got back to me, their solution was written hurriedly and completely unclear--and was not a solution at all. I had to write to them several times, and wait 3 days for an answer. Not recommended unless it's solely for outside shooting and you don't plan on having any technical problems.

    You can only zoom in a little. The battery on the camera ran out before the time left for taping did. I was NOT happy about that at all. The battery should have lasted longer than it did.

  • Shopper Beware

    I bought this camera because I've lost my old digital camera and my cousin just got engaged and of course I'll want a camera for the wedding. I saw that this camera is advertised as "Captures still images" so I thougt 'Perfect! This will take still shots AND videos.' Which is exactly what I want for my cousin's wedding. But, when it arrived, I started playing with it and was trying to figure out how take a still shot. When I couldn't figure it out, I pulled up the flip video website and saw that it had a live support chat. So, I signed on and asked how to take a still shot. I was disappointed to learn that this camera, in fact, canNOT take a still shot. I have to shoot a video, upload that video to my computer and MAKE a snap shot. It's still a great camera. I was more disappointed with Best Buy than the camera. I'm still gonna keep it for the wedding because I wanna film things like the first dance, the father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance...That sorta thing since my cousin, Amanda's (the one who just got engaged) brother, Matt and his wife Aubrie liked it so well when I did that at THEIR wedding. But, I WILL be buying a dfferent camera to take still pictures. I WOULD reccomend this camera to a friend, but, I would suggest they buy it somewhere else.

  • Easy to use, easy to carry, great camera

    I have three kids of my own and teach primary school. I needed an easy, quick camera for use at both places. I am pleased with the ease of this camera...push a button to turn it on, push another button to record and then pop open the USB port to download. I also like the option of having a rechargeable battery but also being able to substitute with regular AA batteries if needed. The stabilizer removes most of the shakes from videoing with a hand held camera. Love it! Love it! Love it!!

  • Video camera OK. Software is not great

    The first time I tried to plug the unit into my USB drive to charge it and get pictures was a nightmare. I keep getting errors and can't download the videos through software. I have upgrades the software 3-4 times. Luckily I am able to open the device and pull videos off it using the standard windows interface with removable storage. If the software was working properly I would probably give this four stars. The actual hardware seems to work, though not that well in low light.

    Not as good as I expected from other reviews. Zoom is worthless. Low light is fair. HDMI cable should be included. I guess I missed that this model did not take stills. Things I like: Image stabilization works well. Built-in USB. Replaceable battery. Tripod mount. Easy to use.

  • Great Gift Idea!!!

    I gave the the Flip to my best man in our wedding as a gift to show my appreciation. He ended up using it the entire wedding weekend to record candid moments of the wedding and reception as well as interviewed those in attendance to share any thoughts for us without our knowledge. He then sent me and my wife the recorded moments and it was priceless. The flip goes anywhere and is a great device to catch those candid moments that will last forever.

    This camera doesn't have the best picture out there, but it is very simple to use and fits exactly what I needed. The Best Buy sales guy pointed me at another model that had a better picture, but it also had about 40 buttons on it. If you're looking for a small video camera that's simple to just pull out of your pocket and start shooting without worry about a lot of different settings, then this is a good fit.

  • Great budget/compact video device

    The Flip HD camcorders are great at what they do. HD quality video at a low price point. They are light on the features, but to be that small and inexpensive, they have to be. They shoot really clean pictures, but I recommend a mini tripod, because there can be a little bit of a "documentary" film feel from their being no image stablization. We purchased our Flip just before our daughter was born.. It has been great to quickly pull out and record all of the crazy things that she does. For new parents, it is a must have for its size and quality. Plus it won't break the bank.

  • Excellent camcorder for easy use

    I bought the Flip UltraHD camcorder Sunday 1-2-2011. I got the 8GB version and I LOOOVE it. It's very light, easy to grab and hold in the hand and can easily fit into your pocket. It does up to 2 hrs of HD recording and it does do stereo sound like it says. I thought at first anything loud that was recorded would be all distorted like many other camcorders but to my amazment the stereo sound was awesome. Little to no static or distortion and when I blasted my music it sounded very good. And my computer speakers were LOUD and had some high pitchness but the Flip camcorder had no issues with it. It total astounded me. It was DEFF worth the buy. PERFECT for anyone who wants a great comcorder at a decent price. It shows the 2 hr battery indicator and let's you know when youre about the run out. Which is nice. I can't stop using it. I really can't find anything bad to say about it. It exceeds my expectations. GO FOR IT.

  • Worth as much as it is....

    I received the black Flip Ultra HD as a Christmas present as well as a receipt because of my last experience with the Slide HD. Everytime I upload the movies to my computer via iMovie, it only downloaded part of the movie. I was struggling to deal with it. Its design is nice but its just not worth it. I'm returning this to get the Sony Bloggie Touch.

  • WARNING - Not compatible With Older Macs...

    This device is easy to use, and the movie quality looks great, at least on the view-screen. However, to my dismay, after connecting my Flip Ultra HD via the USB port on my Mac PowerBook G4 (running Leopard 10.5.8), I discovered it was not compatible. Your Mac must minimally have a 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor. How disappointing!

  • Great pocket video camera

    Great little pocket video camera. This doesn't replace a full size video camera, but for what it is it makes great videos of my 11/2 year old. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to take quick videos of anything. I did a lot of research before buying the flip ultra, I almost didn't buy it because of the bad reviews. But there were more good reviews than bad reviews, so I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. The camera and software are very easy to use and it is real easy to put your video on to dvd. The only thing I wish it came with was the A to D micro hdmi cable to hook up to your tv, but I got mine on ebay for less than 6 dollars. The picture isn't movie quality, but it's the same and or better than comparable. pocket video cameras.

  • Bad quality and service

    The camcorder has a huge defect, if you do not use for few months (3-4) the battery will dry and never will get charge again. The worst part is dealing with their customer service and later, after you got the RMA and sent it, you can wait forever to receive the new one. For the price, quality and service I recommend to go with a good brand like Sony.

  • Great video recorder for size and price

    I reviewed examples of video taken with this camera at Flipvideo web site before buying it. I had doubts about the videocamera (i.e. video and sound quality) after down loading the video from the George Bush Library (good lighting), Red House Museum (good to poor lighting), and Texas A&M game (night time lighting) on my older computers. But, after loading the video on my newer computer (2010, brand with 5 letters). The quality of the video and sound was just as advertised (HD) and I was able to burn the video to DVD easily. In very low light situations I recommend not using the zoom as video will be a little grainy. The sound may be a little comprised outdoors in high wind conditions, but I like this video camera.

  • Easy to use in camera and computer

    I already had the SD version, but upgraded to HD. It's still easy to use and importing video into the computer is simple and flexible. Even with image stabilization, it's still jitters on fast pans. However, I found that the Flip website offers many cool custom designs (and your personal logo or photo) at the same price with no shipping charges.

  • Excellent Buy

    I bought the 3rd Flip Ultra HD for my boyfriend. We go to a lot of concerts and outdoor activities, and it works great. It's crazy easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. I love the sound clarity too. The software is easy to use and there are several other programs you can download along with it that allow you to do more with the videos (pull images from the video and make them pictures, etc).

  • Great Pocket Camcorder

    Having never owned a previous model of the Flip I was not sure what to expect out of this 3rd Generation model. Happily, my experience has been great. The Flip UltraHD is well-built and feels solid. That being said, it is surprisingly light-weight for the apparent ruggedness. Picture quality is great. The video is crisp and is exactly what you would expect from an HD camera. So far, the sound quality is excellent as well. It has no problems picking up typical sounds that you would expect to hear filming family events. Two hours of recording space and a long-life battery have made for some great videos. Finally, this thing is dead easy to use. Piece of cake to start, stop, and view recorded movies. The only drawback I can find so far is that the zoom is limited to 2x digital. Not a big deal but it has taken some getting used to when setting up my shots after using a traditional camcorder with optical zoom for several years.

  • Great pocket camcorder

    This new model works great. Confusing why they have this model have the same name as the old one. The image stabilization is great. The Flip software is easy to use and you can form clips into a movie quickly. This product is simple and that is what is great about it, it does not try to be something more.
