almost convenient
I really like the idea and the execution is good, but the remote always seems to "forget" to turn off at least one device consistently. Easy to remedy with the help button, but I don't think it should have to continue to relearn every time. Same for the mute button. Can't get it to kick in. I like it a lot, just wished it would work seamlessly every time...

Great way to get down to ONE remote!
We were able to replace multiple remotes with this one device...as advertised. Logitech's website made it very easy to set up. Though it takes a couple of hours to do the initial setup, once you get the hang of how the web program works, it's easy to do and later go back and make modifications. I was even able to go to a 3rd-party web site later and add graphic display icons for all of our saved favorite channels. When synching with our existing video and audio devices, all of them were listed by Logitech very specifically down to exact model number. Really eliminated the guesswork! Some reviewers stated they needed to use a downloaded program from Logitech to get all the features they wanted. We got everything via the web program. Just a couple of minor complaints: The backlighted buttons are a bit hard to see in all but the darkest room. Also, you are limited to 23 favorite channels on this particular model. If that's a limitation for you, you might need to consider a more advanced model that allows you to save more channels. Otherwise, we are VERY pleased with this remote and would recommend to others tired of juggling multiple remotes. All of our old ones are now sitting in a pile in the drawer!

Easy setup, doesn't always work
The hardest part about setting this up is rounding up all the model numbers for the equipment you will be controlling. Plug in the USB cable the program walks you through it and automatically sets everything up for you. You can then customize it and even add icons for your favorite channels (only in tv mode though). It has a nice color display which comes on when it is moved. When it works it works great but it only does what I ask it to do 50% of the time. It frequently neglects to turn a component on, and when it doesn't you have to hit the "help" button to retry. If it still doesn't turn everything on then walks you through a troubleshooting sequence. I was hoping it was a learning remote and the troubleshooting would resolve the problem but I have had it for several months now with the same issue. It also tends to forget what mode it is in if you ignore it for too long so you may or may not be able to change the volume or change the channel when you want to. If it was reliable I would love it and highly recommend it. As it is I still need to hang on to all my remotes as I find it easier to just use the remote for the device it fails to operate instead of going through the troubleshooting menu.

Great remote
Only one complaint about remote--number pad is too far toward the bottom of the unit making it a little difficult to use with one hand. Otherwise it works well and was very easy to set up.

Good for the first couple weeks but then awful
At first this remote is great but then for some reason it becomes worthless after a couple weeks!! This is the second one I bought since the first one broke the exact same way (I thought I may have gotten it wet or something that was my fault). The setup is easy and it works really well when it is full functioning but for some reason it constantly resets to the origional setup screen and you have to go through all of the steps over and over again. It is VERY frustrating and definitly not worth the money.

Bang for the Buck?
I bought this to replace my old Harmony 880, which for some time was not keeping a charge on the cradle. Set up was fairly easy, but it seem if you accidentally hit the wrong button , it takes you out of the proper mode, and you are constantly hitting HELP. The upside of having replaceable batteries, so I don't have the previous problem, is a plus!

Controls everything...once it's set up
Took me a while to figure out how to set everything up as activities. I downloaded the Logitech Harmony app after having a HORRIBLE experience with the web app (uses Silverlight, ugh!). Once I got everything set up right, it's been smooth sailing. I have noticed a few times it exits an activity on its own and then if you go back to it, it tries to change inputs, etc. So I just cover the IR transmitter until it's "done". Overall, I love the remote and don't plan on ever going back to a regular universal remote EVER!

Absolutely terrible
I had so many issues with my first one and Best Buy finally replaced. New remote is not much better than the previous one. Continually need to use help function to turn tv and dvr on. Functionality such as volume will stop working randomly. I strongly advise against pruchasing.

Design flaw with battery contacts - remote resets
I would skip this particular model. I had it for about six months, and suddenly, the remote started resetting when I would press any button. I searched online for similar complaints, and apparently this problem happens frequently. Its a design flaw with the battery contacts. Some people put pieces of toilet paper or other items behind the battery cover to "secure" the batteries in place. This worked for about two months, but then the problem cropped back up again. I tried various other ways of positioning the added padding in the battery compartment to secure the batteries, but to no avail. I can't get the remote to work at all now. I called logitech, and after being on hold for 30 minutes, and a 25 minute conversation, they are sending a replacement. This is not my first harmony. I also have the 550, which doesn't have a color led panel. The buttons are also rather small on the 550, so when I saw the 650 on sale, I figured it was a clear upgrade. Couldn't be more wrong. Definitely not worth the hassle. I'm now using the 550 again.

Decent product, has some issues
This is my third Harmony remote. The first was one that I picked up was a Harmony 550 on clearance and was a great buy. I'd still be using that one had it not gotten smashed. The 2nd was a harmony 670. It worked great but the screen has taken a few shots and was near unreadable. It also didn't have near the feel of my old 550. I liked the 670 but couldn't say that I loved it. I recently came across the Harmony 650 and while glad that I picked it up, I'm again, not in love with it. Having the additional colored buttons give it a distinct advantage over my old 670 since I've switched to DTV instead of cable. The color display is nice looking but not mandatory. I'm also programming these to the corresponding Xbox colors (simple configuration with the software provided). The major annoyance with this model so far is that the batteries do not stay secure inside the battery door. This means that should you pick it up or set it down the wrong way, the remote reboots and the activity you were involved in is now forgotten by the remote. I've currently tweaked the prongs on the battery to help compensate for this. I will likely have to install a bit of foam under the battery door to fix the issue for good. This is a huge oversite on Logitech's part and something that many people will be returning these over. This remote also seems slower to start activities than my prior Harmony remotes. While this could be the fault of the Harmony software (timing adjustments on their database) and not the remote, It's only been a problem on this model. The last issue I have with this model over my prior Harmony remotes is that it seems as though this one does not have the IR range as my prior remotes. All of my prior remotes, I could simply hold and they'd bounce the IR all over the place and still control my devices. This remote seems to be less so. It's more like a standard remote and actually has to have an absolutely clear path to the device or it will miss it.

Great Programable Remote
This remote requires that you log on to the internet and attach a USB cable to the remote. The Logitech web site asks you for the model number of your components and it downloads all of the needed codes. It even figures out which component provides audio by asking just a few questions. For example I use my AV receiver for audio and the remote handled that the first time. If you add or change a component, log back on and make the needed changes, no problem. If the remote gets out of sync there's a help function that gets it back in sync very quickly. For example my TV uses the same code for on and off. If the TV's already onand I hit the Watch-TV macro it turns the TV off in error. The remote displays a "Is Everything OK" message and walks you through getting back in sync.

Chooses the Wrong Input 100% of the Time
I've had this for a week and have reprogrammed the remote three times so far. The Remote has failed to change to the proper input every single time I've used it. But then again, it's a Sony TV and there probably aren't that many Sony TVs around. A 100 % failure rate? I threw aways the packaging and now can't return the item, but that's my fault, not Best Buys. The "all on" and "all off" functions work great but then so did the same functions on my DirecTV remote which i had hoped to replace with the Harmony 650.

A nightmare to program
With a complete list of all our devices model number and s/n it was still a nightmare to program. We also used our devices original remotes for the advance programming. We still can not get the Harmony to all the functions of the original remotes. I guess now that we can not put a man on the moon is the reason we can not get a remote to work here on earth.

Truly a UNIVERSAL Remote
The Logitech 650 Universal Remote is fantastic. You can throw away all your remotes because this remote incorporates the 'special functions' of other remotes making them obsolete. Further, what makes this remote great is that you get help as you use it if a function is not working propery. Tis remote does it all. The 650 operates 5 devices which should suffice for most people. Take your time, to buy, it is on sale often so do not pay regular price, but DO BUY IT ! ....... You will not be disappointed.

Best value for the price
At around $60 the 650 delivers exactly what I wanted - eliminating 5 remotes and simplifying home theater operation. Set up took about an hour. The web-based program is OK for those with a simple system of tv, cable, dvd, blu-ray and sound system. I understand the down-loadable program offers more customization, but if all you want is the basics, the web-based program worked just fine. I followed the tutorial and after a few tweaks, the remote was doing everything as advertised. This is the best universal remote I have ever had.

very fragile-easy to get out of synch.
Nice piece of equipment unless you accidently touch something you shouldn't or drop it off your lap. then it seems to get out of synch and the tv is on but only gives off black specs, the dvd player door wont open. Information overload from geek sq. Help button is only so helpful. How do I change it from internet video device back to hdv1 when pushing watch tv isn't working? Why does the tv go fuzzy if you accidently push the wrong button? OK Geeks- how about some help.

Great for the price
This remote is much better than I had expected for the price. It was super easy to set up and fairly easy to use. My biggest complaint is related to the button design; sometimes they get stuck when pressed. A quick nudge to the side of the button corrects it easy enough though.

Does the job well
I have had the 550 model for a number of years (in fact, have gone through three of them. They work great, but the dog enjoyed as well...) So bought this because I didn't need a ton of devices supported and I love using the PC to set things up. I know other remotes let you program at the remote and do learn commands but that is just a pain. I was not able to use the web interface to program the remote but since I use the Harmony software for my 550 remote, I was fine using that. You do need to create separate accounts for each remote. At first I had an issue with my "guide" button for the DirectTV. I was able to program another button to be the guide but followed up with customer service. They had me do a little exercise with the "guide" button and it works like a champ now. It had just become stuck internally. My interaction with customer service was via email and it was near real time. I think the customer support was great. So far I haven't used most of the specific features other than to turn the equipment on and off and change channels. Works fine. Next step is to just program the receiver for playing music but that should be a no-brainer. I recommend this product.

every day it is out of sync, must turn off and start again. while pausing it refuses to continue and I am forced to go back to my old remote to continue. I spent a lot of money for a very poor product. My expectations were that I could do away with my 3 other remotes but I don't dare and they are my go to remotes when this one chooses to not function properly which is almost daily.

Good remot
This is a very good remote, with the online setup it is easy to find the the product that you want to control, you just need the make and model of the device you want to control. The only issue I have is that it losses connection sometimes, ( couple of times a week). This is fixed by pressing help, and following the on screen (remote screen) menu.

An Excellent Remote that is easy to use
I picked up this remote because I found out I could not replace my Kenwood RC-R0805. Witch I have had for almost 20 years. Thought it would take me a while to program and get use to but it only took 10 min to program 5 devices. That is 5 min faster then it took me to program 1 device in my Kenwood. The only problem I had getting use to the remote is the volume and the channel buttons. Kenwood is vol right and ch left and it is opposite on the Logitech. Everything else was easy to use. I have problems with the life of the rechargeable battery's. The remote lights up all the time you touch or move the remote if you could turn that option off I think the batter's would last a lot longer. Everything else was great I kinda wish I would of purchased a Logitech Harmony 650 years ago.

Hate that it took me this long to buy
This is one of those products that, now that I have it, I can't believe I didn't buy it a long time ago. My set up is a plasma TV, Dish DVR, Yamaha surround system, blue-ray player, and Wii. Going online and running through the setup process only took about 10 minutes. The setup process walks you through everything simple as can be. When done, you sync your setup to the remote. Unplug it from the computer and it just works. No more fumbling for remotes depending on which function you want to perform. No more pressing multiple buttons on "universal" remotes to do something as simple as turn up the volume. This remote knows which device is in control of what function. So, the buttons just work.

Great value for the price
I can't really rate the durability because I've only had the remote for a few weeks. This is my second Harmony remote - I have a Harmony One in the living room that I love but I couldn't bring myself to spend the cash for a second one in the lesser-used basement rec room. The 650 fit the bill. It uses the same setup software as the One. Speaking of that, make sure you download or install the Logitech Remote Setup 7.7 - it's free, and it's much easier that the alternative online setup method Logitech also offers. The local software is fairly intuitive but does include an interactive help function and chat/email/telephone support. I have two small gripes here: First, I have to establish a separate account for each remote and must remember two user names and passwords. Logitech really needs to update the software to allow multiple remotes under a single account. It would also be nice if I could copy devices from one account to another, but the accounts are entirely separate. And while the setup went well overall, I had to make a timing adjustment that wasn't readily obvious. Technicial support had an answer for me in 24 hours that worked perfectly. So, setup gripes aside, it's a great remote. Press one button, like watch movie, and all the right devices power up, adjust to the proper settings, and the control functions adjust to operate the appropriate devices (volume adjusts the receiver, play controls the bluray player, etc). If something doesn't work like it should, there's an on-board help function to troubleshoot the problem. While the 650 lacks the finesse and some of the bells and whistles on the One, it does have some customizable buttons. It also uses standard AA batteries, so there's no recharging station to leave out and drive your wife crazy. Much like the One, it won't control a Nintendo Wii, so you'll still have to get off the couch for that. Short version: The 650 is a great remote to run a home theater system, especially if you only have a few devices to worry about and don't want to drop the cash for a Harmony One.

lightweight, setup easy once it gets going
have it for 2 months now: Value of Price - since it came down to less than $50, was worth it. Ease of Set Up - at first not so easy. would not take initial upload - froze. had to Google for directions to setup in safe mode. after that, future uploads were smooth Durability - have toddlers, nuff said. Would give it 5 stars if not for the following: Initial setup froze and limitation to only 5 devices.

The best thing about this remote is that i don't have 5 remotes around anymore and it was able to communicate with all of my components. You do have to have some computer skills to set it up and it's also easier if you have a lap top so your not running back and forth to the desk top.Down loading can be a problem at times and you might have to disable the fire wall to get it to work.

Marginally cool, functional remote
This is my 2nd Harmony; I upgraded from one of the very early models (a Harmony 520). I bought this in conjunction with one of the Logitech Harmony PS3 interfaces, in order to get a truly single-remote setup - and because the IR sender in my old Harmony has too narrow a FOV for my new, wider living room. This model isn't any WORSE than my old Harmony, but it's not much BETTER, either. Logitech has gotten rid of the old installed Harmony customization software in favor of a web-driven app that's not anywhere near as fully-featured. Big pro: The thing works as advertised. Pros: The 650 is faster than the older Harmonies; you only wait a few seconds between selecting an activity and the controller releasing device-level control back to the user. The on-screen graphics are better and easier to read in a dark room - but that's not saying a whole lot, given that the old displays were monochrome low-res LCD's. This controller adds PgUp and PgDn hardware buttons, along with RYGB Blu-ray control buttons. Basic setup is easy; I managed it in only about 15 minutes for four devices and four activities - with an 8-year old tugging on my sleeve the whole time. Biggest con: The thing works ONLY as advertised - make sure that you only want what the box says you can have - don't expect to be able to make it work for any nonstandard applications. Cons: New web-based setup doesn't offer anywhere near as many options as the old installed software did - creating custom activities and buttons is still possible, but they've taken out sequences, custom buttons/activities is a lot more complicated, and the interface is AWFUL (admittedly, the old interface was almost as bad, but at least it offered lots of pretty switches). Hardware activity buttons (above the LCD) are not blacklit, so changing activities in a darkened room involves either a flashlight or using the softkeys. Setting up favorite channels is neat, but the interface is counterintuitive, and after you do it, synching the remote messes up the softkeys in ALL of the activities. Finally, the controller occasionally sends the absolute WRONG commands to my PS3, particularly on shutdown. Not sure if that's this remote or the PS3 interface causing the problem, though. All told, I don't feel like I've wasted any time or money, but I'm not as blown away by the H650 in 2011 as I was by the H520 in 2006. Still, it does what I need it to do, and the lack of a lot of extra options, while disappointing, does keep me from endlessly tinkering with the bloody thing.

Solved our compatability problems
We couldn't operate all of our devices with one remote. We explored several options and the Harmony remote best fit our needs. I believe this remote can do MUCH more than we are asking of it. The Harmony does seem to miss some commands occasionally but it is easily fixed using the help feature incorporated into the remote.

Great choice for the price, even my wife likes it.
I purchased this for my wife, she was so tired of all the remotes. I like the setup. Simple to add the devices it controls and assign buttons for a DVR. I set this device up to control a Dennon AVR 2119, Dish Network DVR, SamSung TV and a SamSung BluRay/DVD player. Now, I press one button beside the menu item that says: Watch TV, Watch Satellite or Watch DVD and I'm done. Note, if you have a DishDVR device you will want to configure a couple of the buttons that control the DVR to make it easier. I have only had it 6 months now and can't speak for the durability but it has performed perfectly so far. My kids have dropped it several times and it keeps working. On the negative side, the menu screen is a little small for me to read well but there are only 3 to choose from and I have it memorized now.

Overall happy
I must be happy with this remote as I have three of them. Once they are set up and you know their quirks the other remotes go in a drawer. Set up can be a pain if you have to teach it a command but being honest I never spent more than a few minutes doing setup. On my last purchase I bought two for use in our living room. I set the first on up and then thought I should be able to set a second one up by copying the set up to the second unit. I couldn't find a way and had to set up a new account for the second unit and go through the exercise again. One warning - if you are going to have dueling remotes they both must be in the same state, i.e. both must have the same activity active. So if one turns of 'watch tv' the other one must do the same but block the signal from getting to the controlled units. This happens as each unit remembers the state of the system it implemented and the second unit does not automatically synch. This for a while lead to many frustrated questions from the spouse as to why doesn't this remote work. For some reason the one in the second room doesn't always turn off the satellite receiver with the 'turn off all' button. When it doesn't pressing the help button turns it off. Of the universal controllers I have used this one works and its firmware is upgradeable.

Once programmed, its great
Using with: Panasonic 60, Pioneer 5.1 receiver, PS3, AppleTV, FiOs HD DVR. Overall: The programming takes a couple tries, It took me 4 re-runs to make it perfect. Setup: Plug remote into computer with cable provided. You need the model numbers for each of your devices. The program that Harmony initially starts you with DOES NOT setup everything, only the basic devices and simple activities. You'll have to re-run/edit the setup and select "Manual" then you will be presented with more options. The "customize buttons" option shows on the main menu screen, and from there you can adjust the way the Harmony remote works. I had to re-run/edit the set-ups multiple times to adjust everything to my liking, most users if not all will do too. Build: The remote feels solid, but a few drops and I worry about it, especially the screen. It has backlighting keys that show up automatically when you pick it up (thanks to the built in accelerometer). Buttons are decently large and easy to navigate. The screen is not great quality but it gets its message across to the user. Actual use: Once programmed, using the remote is easy. However there is a waiting time. This model only has one IR blaster built-in where the higher end ones have multiple. This means it turns on each device one a time, which the user does NOT have to initiate each. Scenario: User hits the "Watch TV" activity button, Tv switches on, cable box switches on, Receiver switches on, inputs on all devices are switched, sound from receiver is on, and finally user begins watching TV with all devices in correct modes. This process takes about 10 seconds with the remote always pointed at the screen. If users wish for the activity to respond faster, only option is to buy the higher end Harmony remotes with multiple IR blasters. If the remote seems to have missed a device or you switched between activities and something is not on/off, push the "help" button on the top of the remote screen and it will walk you through a short "fix" selection. Device suport: Tvs- any/most will work Receivers- any/most will work Game systems- most will require seperate IR/bluetooth adaptor AppleTV/media center devies/Pcs- requires button customization and in some cases a separate IR/bluetooth receiver. You can check for your device compatabilty on Harmony's website Go to the following link. http://myremotesetup.com/EasyZapper/New/Main.asp?WebProcessAction=Start&ReturnUrl=%2FEasyZapper%2F%2E%2FNew%2FProcSpice%2Flanding%2Easp&ClassId=PrSpice%2EProcSpice&RelativePath=ProcSpice%2F Note: Yes, to those with digital video recorders (DVRs), there is an option to select to keep your DVRs on all the time without messing with the other devices.

This sucker is awesome! The only thing i don't like about it, is every once in a while it won't turn things on correctly, and you have to hit the help button, then it will fix the issue. Other than that, it works perfectly. Every time i use it, i think to myself how much easier it is than grabbing 5 remotes, because even though some of them are "universal" it seems they can't control all of my components. Not to worry with this remote. Plus my girl friend can figure it out as well, and doesn't have to ask me every time she wants to watch or play something. Great value for the money
Overall very good value for the money. Took a little jockeying to setup correctly but not much more difficult than other remotes. You have to be in line of site like other reviews say. Our dogs will block the signal if they are in front of the component. Also our cat knocked it off the table and the battery clip compressed and I had to pry it open to get it to work again. No other issues and everyone has commented on how easy it is to use.

Great Remote, liked the older version better
Over all, this is a great remote. I love the added blue tooth capability for use with the Wii. The setup is as easy as can be (the main reason this remote rocks!) However, I Prefer the layout and screen setup of the previous versions. This version only lets you see 2 activities on the screen at a time (instead of 4) so you have to push next to get to the other 2 activities. They offset that by making the most common activities as individual buttons, but I would have preferred more soft keys to allow custom naming of the activities.

I liked this remote so much I bought 2. I have one in my media room and in my living room. Set up was fast and easy and both work perfect. I had no need for the advanced features of some of the higher priced units and the 1 button function is great.

Easy to setup
Having setup many of the old style of remotes, this Logitech on-line setup is easy. If you have trouble, the phone help was easy to use too. I setup my sister's $40 remote but her computer would not work with the Logitech web site.(It will not work with IE8 & Windows 2000) so I used our laptop. But I called to find out why. I used FireFox & it worked & set her up on her computer. You have software on your computer & on the web site to setup the Harmony remotes. Then few months later I purchased my Harmony 650, added my devices & setup my activities and everything worked like a charm. My computer OS is Win7 Home-/64bit with IE9. Later I purchased a newer HDTV & internet Blu-ray player because the older TV developed a power supply problem, so I setup my new devices again & it is so much faster & simplier. Logitech believes in the KISS principle: - keep it simple, stupid! BUT: The harmony remote operates the devices ok, but my new Sony TV would switch to the TV speakers rather than my 500 watt amplifier after it was turned on. I later found you must disable all the HDMI functions in all the devices, but no one seemed to know this at Best Buy Geek Squad or Sony. I re-read all the equipment manuals & understood why because of the HDMI handshake between equipment which will operate functions by its self after the Harmony turns on the power. You don't need to automate your devices thru the HDMI fuctions, let the Harmony do the work.

Excellent Buy On Sale, Works As Advertised
First off let me start my discussing the price. I had been looking at getting this remote over the past few weeks because I'm temporarily living with family. I have my DVR, HDTV, and the families satellite box hooked up. I was getting tired of using both the Dish and DirecTV remotes, and would always have to switch the TV inputs manually on the TV as the TV remote is boxed up somewhere in storage. From 8/9-8/12, this thing has changed price 5 times within 5 days. It was regular price on Monday, on sale for $42 Tuesday, on sale for $65 Wednesday, back to $42 Thursday, and now $59 Friday. What's up with this Best Buy? When I saw the price online Tuesday, I thought I would go pick it up Thursday while near BB store. Then I saw the change Wed. and wasn't happy, but thought I'd go anyway to check. When I got to the store Thursday, it was regular price at $70, but checked my phone app and it was on sale again for $42. So the store price matched the online price, but they resisted on letting me use my 10% off when the coupon cleared stated it could be used on sale prices. After a little debating on the stupidty and semantics, he gave me the 10% off. Now to the review, after the first attempt to the sync the device it hung up during the process and I had to resync it, which didn't have any further problems. Set up is super easy and if you are missing any commands, you can add them in with ease. After checking to see if the Watch TV command worked, everything worked fine except the volume buttons wouldn't work unless I switched to TV. I was able to quickly fix this problem with the online setup and a resync. I have yet to test on a DVD player (as I no longer have a PS3) nor on a receiver (which is also in storage). WIth that said though, it is working great with the TV, DirecTV, and my Dish DVR 922 Slingbox. I can fully control everything and no longer need to get up out of bed or my chair to go switch the TV inputs. NOTE: if you have a Dish DVR 922, you need to go into the settings of the device and turn on IR remote functionality.

Harmony remotes don't float.
I had to replace a 4 year old harmony remote because my 2 year old son performed a buoyancy test on it. I like the ergonomics and lighting on the new remote. The setup is about the same as the old one with the online step by step procedure. Controlling 5 devices is more than enough for most households. Remember that your video game consoles cannot be controlled with this so they do not need to be part of your 5 device list. I do not like the limited default functions for each activity. I have to go in manually and add functions such as tuning for the "Listen to Radio" activity or DVD menu access for the "Watch a Movie" activity. This can be somewhat complex for most folks. I had trouble with the on my first Harmony. Overall this is a good remote that does (mostly) what I had hoped it would do with just the basic setup. Of course, I also bought the extended warranty this time...

The Best Remote on the Market!
After trying many different Universal remote controls over the last 20 years, I have to say that the Harmony Remote by Logitech is definitely the best. It is very easy to set up, (you DO have to have a computer with internet access though) and the fact that it can do various "activities" makes it great for those who have multiple devices in their home theater setup. The back-lit keys make it easy to see what you are doing, and you can even customize it for special buttons you might have on your factory remotes. I highly recommend this item!

Center of my life
I use it now for all of my devices. TV, PS3 (with the logitech adapter), DVR, Receiver, plus Xbox (which it can't really control-- can it?). Threw all my other remotes away-- only to use the old remotes for some super detail settings I need to do. Still figuring out how to make it super easy for my wife though. There has to be some device out there that will be wife-friendly. Dear Logitech, it's not women's fault that they are not so savvy on these things-- you just have to make devices that will make them patient enough to tinker on them. Also, the remote database is a little outdated. This thing could be soooper easy if only they have updated new devices on their online database. The remote can easily be customizable though even if your deveice is not yet there. It just requires a little bit of knowledge in setup. Overall, I love it.

Pretty good so far...
The remote should verify that it can access access all the devices before it starts turning on/off any of the devices. For instance, if a table or object is obstructing the remote from one device, it should not start turning on ANYdevice.

So much easier
I'm very happy with this purchase. I use the remote to control a TV, Blue-Ray, Comcast Cable Box and Speaker Bar. There are tons of ways to configure the system and the one-touch on is so great. I've had universal remotes before and you'd still have to select input modes manually when switching between components. Now I just push "play movie" and everything that needs to be on is magically on. There were a few issues during setup with downloading the software, and it took a little while to setup the different configurations, but it's fairly easy and Logitec offers phone support.

This remote does everything as advertised.
I needed a replacement for my old Home Theater Master remote that I'd had for several years. It took hours for it to learn all the functions of my equipment and took me forever to setup the macros on it. That's not the case with the Logitech Harmony 650. It was very easy to setup with the computer hookup and the easy to follow instructions. It quickly learned all the functions of my equipment and worked flawlessly on the first try.

just what I wanted
I love this remote. At first I was skeptical to pay so much for a remote, but this one stands out of the crowd. I was able to consolidate 3 remotes into this one remote. It was very easy to program fo rthe basic functioons and fairly easy to add all of the additional functions to available buttons ans screen displays. The software is user friendly and explains step by step. My only issue was that the software was difficult to download on my laptop. Once I got over that hurdle everything was fine. My mom saw and used my remote. Now she wants one too. I love the one button features like "watch TV" "watch a movie", or "listen to music". This is an awesome remote!

Nice Idea but doesn't work as advertised
I credit Logitech with making a universal remote that is easier to set up than most but with that said their website does not recognize the new RCA HDTV that I bought and this has led to some setup issues. All the commands had to be taught manually. In a nutshell, sometimes the 'watch tv' button does what it is supposed to and sometimes it gets confused. Same with the other activities. I called Logitech technical support and they gave me the model number of a 13" RCA tube tv to try. Yeah, I'm sure that will program my remote to operate a new HDTV. Yes, that is sarcasm you detect. LOL I guess I would say go ahead and give this remote a try but don't expect perfection.

The remote works just like it is advertised.
When I saw the Geek Squad installer sitting on my couch with 5 different remotes that came with all the new electronic devices that I purchased I said to myself that my new remote is going to be so difficult to use. One the installer programmed each of my devices into the Harmony 650 and then showed me how to turn everything on and off and how to switch from the DVD player to the VHS player it is pretty cool. The installer even connected to my Netflix account while I left to run a quick errand. He is definitely the man. I had my doubts in the beginning but not anymore.

Great Inexpensive Remote
I have three harmony remotes and all work great. I have two of this particular model and find it very easy to set up macros, add icons for favorite channels and customize what the buttons do... all very necessary so my kids 5 and 7 and my wife can control everything! The only thing that is disappointing is that you have to create individual "accounts" to set up each remote if you have multiple. It gets a bit difficult to keep track of this if you need to make changes.

Good Remote But Needs Some Improvements
Overall I like the Harmony® 650 Remote but I'm disappointed in a few things. First of all, the activity buttons and help button at the top of the remote are not backlit and all the buttons that are backlit are not bright enough compared to older Harmony remotes. In addition, the (1-9) number buttons no longer include the letters on the buttons (e.g. abc on the #1 button) which for me is a problem since I use the letters to perform on-screen searches and now I cannot see the letters in the dark. Having the letters on the number buttons on previous Harmony remotes allowed me to see the letters in the dark as the number buttons were backlit. I also was disappointed in the new online programming software which is easier to use but is significantly limited in the ability to customize the remote (I had to fall back to the Harmony remote software installed on my computer which works better but does not allow you to program some other features of the remote).

Works well
This is my first universal remote and it's very convenient & easy to use. There's only a couple of things I do not like about it. #1- the iPod control is way to difficult to use with my pioneer 1019 & that is the only time I pull out a different remote to use. #2- it switches to standby without my prompting it & then to turn it on I have to aim it away from everything. Otherwise I recommend it for a home with the equal amount of electronics.

The Ultimate Universal Remote
I have tried a multitude of universal remotes over the years. None of them has ever performed satisfactorily. The biggest problems I faced were (see if this sounds familiar): having to switch back and forth between devices for various functions and having equipment that wasn't on the list of product codes. The Harmony solved all that. With the online set up and a truly intuitive layout, it's a dream. Plus, even when it doesn't do exactly what it's supposed to do, all I have to do is hit "help" and it usually figures out what my problem is and then asks if it has now fixed the problem. Awesome. If you're looking for a great universal remote. Look no further. You may find one that's a few bucks cheaper. Don't waste your time & money on that. Get the harmony. It is more than worth the extra money.

If this product worked as good as the spec's say it should, it would be great. However, it does not. Sometimes it will turn on all 3 devices for watching tv (tv, cable box, entertainment center), sometimes it won't. I have gone thru its help procedure for fixing the problem several times, but it does not stay fixed. Turning off the 3 devices sometimes takes multiple presses of the power off buttome.

Great Purchase!
My setup: Vizio M420NV TV, Motorola DCT3416 cable box, Bose 3-2-1 GSX II audio, Sony BDP-BX57 Blu Ray DVD player. Took about 15 minutes to set up our three primary activities: watch tv, watch movie, listen to music. Instructions easy to follow. Haven't added favorite channels, not really a need to but I assume it works as easily at the activities. Love that there is "one ring to rule them all" when it comes to the "Off" button. One key press and all devices power off. Everything worked as expected except the Cablevision cable box sometimes requires two presses to turn on, the on-device help system was able to adjust it and now it works perfect. Super cool. 4 remotes in the drawer. Exactly what I was hoping for!

maybe it's just me ... I still find myself picking up the other remotes - it seems faster to get to do what I set out to do. Some features of a product you need to use that products remote. This one is ok ... helps reduce clutter ... but for the money - it's not that great. Does make an interesting conversation piece though ... and makes you look smart and modern until you use it. Don't get in a hurry if using this ... takes time to learn it and adjust to it. Because of the price - I would not recomend this.

pain in the ***!
I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with tech support to get this thing to work with a common sony setup (wide screen tv, sound bar/home theater, dish network dvr, and blu ray player. Logitech's tech support in Asia made me want to pull out my own fingernails. and tier two support did not keep their callback appointment. After a lengthy internet search, I was able to make three calls and get through to tech support in Canada. Their tier two support has worked with me three times and the thing works ok most of the time. The IR is temperamental at 10 feet though. The on line documentation is an ugly experience. Bottom line: If I didn't live 300+ miles from Best Buy I would have returned it and gone back to using 4 remotes.

Great Universal Remote
As with most of the Harmony remotes, set-up and use is really easy. Just hook it up to the computer and tell it what devices you have. The only down-side to this remote, is that it's a little bit large and chunky. This remote is smarter than some previous models and it was able to figure out that my TV needs some extra time when powering on before changing inputs (although, as with previous versions of the software, it ignored that setting.)

Good Remote if On Sale
I picked up this item because I was tired of dealing with five different remotes, and "universals", which are anything but. Logitech has the right idea - create a database of all codes for all devices, then let the user login, specify the device and model number, and download the codes. The device iteself is slightly oversize, with an LCD color display. Buttons are slightly hard to read, especially those at the top. The A-to-B USB will be familiar to anyone who has ever downloaded from a camera. Setup was easy once the account was estabished. Biggest problem is finding your make and model numbers, but the website shows pictures, which makes it easy to correct errors. Up to five devices can be programmed to do up to four tasks - normally TV (w/set-top box), DVD, music and a fourth. Favorites channels are easy to program, but you can only do 20, and there is no way to sort them except manually. Construction of the unit is a bit 'off' - I had to return two that rattled before I got a good one.

Great, but...
Good It served the purpose of my wife complaining about 10 different remotes. This is a great remote, but what made it more easier to purchase was when I bought it, the price was $64.99 not $99.99 (do not buy at that price!) It served a purpose, setting it up is for techies, once it is set up, just push an activity and it turns on any devices assigned to that activity, and changes the source and even the source on your receiver! The bad In order for you to use your xbox, you need to change a setting in there like use remote control. Then you control it, the biggest issue is that powering the xbox on or off is not easy as the remote need to fix it all the time. But once the xbox is on, then it controls everything just fine

I had the 650 for 2 months and the volume down button has already quit working. The unit works well but the construction is sub par. I like the unit but I bought this to replace remotes which had died, but at least they had lasted for at least a year. For the money this thing cost, it should last longer than 2 months and spending more money on an extended warranty is a poor substitute for quality,

I picked this remote on sale. I looked at them before, but I was not sure on the easy of use. I got the remote home, unpacked it, and read the directions (not a norm for me). I have to admit the directions were very helpful with the setup of the remote. The directions stated approximately 30 minute setup time. It was far easier than I expected. Obtained all of my device information and went to the website for software and setup. Followed the easy setup screens, plugged in the remote and we were off and running. Now the good part, the wife loves it and she hates changing tech. It was very easy to show her the how to of the remote. She has yet to call me about the various functions. Good bye OEM remote pile on the end table.

The remote's button configuration will automatically change according to the "activity" you are doing (watching movies, tv, etc) and will turn on or off all required devices with the push of 1 button. You can record macros or button sequences for efficient use. For example: Turn on TV/Switch Input to HDMI/Turn to Channel x/Set A/V receiver to cinema mode The sensor lights up the remote when it detects movement (though the buttons are a little dimmer than I'd prefer). I can access every option for every device.

The Harmony 650 was easy to setup and controls all five components in my AV system, as advertised. The only part of setup that may be difficult for some is writing down the make and model of each device and the associated inputs and outputs. It took me about 30 minutes to find this information, then in 5 minutes the remote was ready to go. I was impressed by the setup software. The information for 4 of 5 my component remotes was in the database, point, click, done. Okay, so it has quite a bit of functionality. However, for as much money as it costs it should be much easier and fool proof. I still have to use my other remotes regularly since it is easier than having to click a dozen times on this remote to perform the function I want. Bottom line, if you have a VERY simple home theater setup then it may give you what you want. But, if you have a gaming system, blu ray, receiver, HDTV, etc. - don't throw your other remotes too far away, you will still need or want to use them.

My TV is such that I need to change modes one at a time, which makes switching from "Watch TV" to "Watch Movie" a little slower than I like, but the 1-button "Watch Movie" mode is so helpful. After fiddling around with it I found out I caused the programming issue so I fixed the model number and it worked perfectly. I like the help feature of the remote. It really makes troubleshooting why something didn't work as planned and then fixing it. If I had one negative comment about this remote, it's the balance of the controls and how it fits in my hand. I only just got this, so I'm not sure about long-term issues, durability, battery life, but my first impressions of the Logitech Harmony 650 are positive. The unit is compact, about the same size as all my other device remotes. It has a nice, small color LCD screen, which activates when the unit is picked up, and goes off when put down, a nice feature. Setup, via the MyHarmony site/software, was as easy as it can get. Type in the make and model of each device, describe how they're connected, and configure the basic functionality for default activities such as "Watch TV," "Watch a Movie," "Listen to Music," or custom activities you can define yourself. Within minutes, I was able to turn on my DVR, TV, and surround sound system and control each with their respective controls. This is my first experience with a universal remote, and I have to say that for my fairly basic home theater setup, it seems the Harmony 650 will really do the job, with little effort. It's nice to be able to put away the little army of remotes that littered the coffee table.

Fantastic Remote
Bought this remote for my parents for xmas and was nervous about setting it up because I'd never done it before but it was a breeze. I was able to condense 5 remotes into this one. Very easy to use, one touch activity to your favorite activities. My only regret is that I wish i had purchased the next step up model, the Harmony 700 because of the rechargeable battery factor. Otherwise, Setup is very easy, and using this remote is very easy

Great Universal Remote
This remote is great, you can set actions so with a press of a button your TV turns on, changes channels to DVD player and also turns on your DVD player. The only reason I gave it four stars is that it can only handle 5 devices.

Great RC, Simple and Effective
I bought this Harmony Remote in the hopes that a more simplified remote would be easier to use. With today's technology, controlling more than 3 to 5 electronic devices in your home theater system is more the norm. I owned a Harmony remote and changing to the new one was very simple to change the functions and load the new remote. I wish it was rechargeable, like the 880. Very good remote and the price was great.

Great product for a smaller system
Have to say Logitech really right sized this remote. It won't support large numbers of components but for most typical setups this will work flawlessly. The harmony remotes are the one true use focused remote I have used. Nearly anyone can navigate a home theatre once this is setup. We have two of this model in the house and a harmony one on a large setup. Also bought one for my sister-in-laws family and they love it too!!!

It has some shortcomings...
...but those may be solved by some in-depth research. My biggest complaint may be solved by some more detailed setup that I just haven't taken the time to look into. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't adequately control my new Samsung BluRay player. There's no pre-programmed button to get to the DVD menu. The "Menu" button takes you to the high-level menu of the player that has all of the apps, etc. This is frustrating for me, but even worse for the rest of the family. I don't like the layout as well as my older 670 either... The auto-light feature is an improvement. Bottom line though - if you have to control multiple components and multiple inputs, the Harmony is the only way to go.

Great for someone who has too many remotes...
So I bought one of these for my mother last Christmas and decided to buy myself one. I am able to operate everything with this remote. The only issue I have is when i'm going from watching a movie back to watching TV. For some reason the input will not change back. I also wish that the remote would work with my Wii, but its not the remote's fault. I need to go back and make sure all my settings are correct.

Doesn't work
Most devices don't have direct input choice, so when you want to watch a DVD it has to cycle the tv inputs to what it assumes is the correct input by assuming it knows which input it was last on. So it never hits the correct input on the TV. Like assuming it knows if the TV is already on or not. It sends a signal to the tv to cycle the power to the opposite setting. It doesn't know unless the tv remote actually had two bottoms for power on and another for power off.

Control in a single device!
I bought this device as part of the Black Friday specials that BB was offering. It was such a good price and I have been really pleased with how well it functions. I've actually gone so far as to have taken the batteries out of the four controllers that littered the coffee table in the TV room and put them all in storage! Setting up the controller to work with everything took an hour or so, but the instructions warn you that's the case. I also found it necessary to tweak settings on the controller a few times to get it to do exactly what I wanted it to do. But the good news is that you can in fact tweak the device very precisely. A great product and at the sale price, an outstanding buy.

Good remote
Easy to use overall, though it tends to "forget" where it was last or change to a different setting on occasion, requiring you to go back to the TV or cable/satellite box to control your channels, volume, etc. The motion sensor was a nice touch. Certainly not perfect, but for $50 or less, a remote to seriously consider, particularly if you have several separate remotes to contend with.

Can the wife learn to use it?
It was a great price on Black Friday. It's a pretty slick device, though if one of the devices gets out of sync, you have to go through several steps to get all of the devices to where they should be. This seems to happen alot with my wife and kids. They will use a different remote to turn something on or off and the Harmony remote doesn't know. Then when you use the Harmony remote, something turns off when it should turn on. I tried hiding the other remotes, but then there was a different problem. When you push the one-step button, there may be 20 seconds of remote control signals sent out to adjust the different devices to the correct settings. If someone walks in front of the remote or it gets set aside in the middle, something doesn't get set correctly. Then you might as well just use all the different remotes.

Reasonably Priced Progammable Remote
Overall, I like the remote. I did have trouble getting it programmed initially as I did not get a User's Manual in my package and the Quick Set Up Guide lacked steps on how to complete the programming. The remote occasionally misses setting the proper HDMI channel or the wrong device on a multifunction system (selects Radio vs DVD) requiring me to run the Help function. This is probably a device timing issue.

This remote once set-up works great, however the setup time for the non-techie people may be very long and complex. I had bought this as a gift for my dad and he was really frustrated during setup. Great remote - Easy to set up and use
This remote was a terrific purchase. Once I added a receiver to my system the number of remote became overwhelming my wife who already could not get the TV on or movies to play for the kids. Even I was getting frustrated with remote switching that needed to be done. Now we can all turn on the TV, my 6 year old has no problem getting the TV on or the DVD player. The remote is so easy to set up, you do need a computer though - I would recommend getting a laptop out and sitting in front of your system while you set it up. Simply pop in your component makes and models, answer a few questions on which order things should turn on and what inputs and you are good to go. The 'Help' button comes in handy if you have an issue with a component on when it shouldn't be. All in all a great buy, wish I had not waited so long to pick it up.

You can connect up to 5 gadgets to this remote. The harmony is pretty simple but if you are not a geek, you will have to call the toll free number and wait awhile to fine tune your harmony remote. It took me a couple of calls to get it exactly right. But the Logitech staff are knowlegeable and can even log into your account and hook up your remote while you wait. I cannot say that it works perfectly everytime. Even with everything programmed, we constantly have to hit the help key to get it to fine tune. We keep waiting for the magic to gel, but so far, it hasn't. The help button is used quite a bit

Didn't solve techniphobe spouse problem
Like many people I have an HDTV, cable HD DVR, AV receiver, and Blu-ray player. Recently, I added the Boxee Box to watch Internet video and to listen to music. The ottoman in front of the couch is littered with remotes. I had hoped this remote would replace them all and make it easier for my partner to use the media system. The remote was easy enough to set up. You download an app from Logitech and use your notebook to identify the devices and then the activities like "Watch a Movie". The problem is, the remote cannot overcome the fact that my TV, receiver and cable box all switch on and off with the same command. The first time my partner used the remote the receiver didn't come on. Since the HDMI from the cable box routes through the AV reciever nothing appeared on the TV. While the little screen on the remote tries to overcome this by prompting "Did everything work?", it didn't matter. The Harmony remote was quickly handed back to me to fix the problem. Problem is, about 50% of the time at least one device doesn't turn on, or worse it was already on and it gets turned off. This is thoroughly frustrating and now, sadly, the Harmony has joined the other remotes on the ottoman and not generally used. Next piece of AV gear I buy will include a check to see if it has separate on and off buttons.

Overall Good Remote
An upgrade over my previous Harmony. Using it for DirecTV HD DVR, Sony TV & DVD, Pioneer Reciever, & Xbox360. Color Screen is nice but less useful than previous remote. Only allows 2 options from "home screen" rather than 4 at startup. It is a design error that the quck start keys at top of the remote (the ones making it easiest to start or shut off everything) are not lighted. 4 Color buttons on face of remote is great - odd that they are not setup as default to matching xbox keys (have to manually setup). Uses 2 AA rather than 4 AAA - nice. Setup is EASY. Anyone complaining about it is probably not capable of reading their email or surf the web either.... Picked it up during black friday for $49.99 - great deal.

Most Amazing Gift I've Ever Received
We do not have a complicated set up by any means but for some reason, no one can figure out how to switch between watching satellite and playing Wii! Nevermind trying to juggle three separate remotes and always having to look for ones that go missing... This was a total breeze to set up (minus the fact that their web site was down all Christmas Day). It took less than 10 minutes from start to finish with only a few minor adjustments from their recommended settings and it was working perfect! Since you program the remote online it supports many different devices and is able to keep up with changing technology to extend its own useful life. It also stores all your settings online so you won't loose them in the event of a computer issue. LOVE LOVE LOVE this remote!

Trash those junky remotes and get a Harmony
Every device comes with a remote and I have a pile of them in front of our electronics center. The Logitech Harmony 650 was on sale on Black Friday and having seen a friend's unit I decided to pick this up. This was EASY. Downloaded the software application from the Logitech web site, created an account (not sure why) and then used the wizard in the application to add all the devices in my entertainment system. Every one of them supported: Sony tuner/amp, Sony XBR television, DirecTV HD satellite receiver, DVD player, tape player and more. Everything is done through the software program - and the results are downloaded to the remote. 100% of all functions that used to be controlled by separate remotes are now working with the Harmony 650. Very pleased.

Samsung TV, Onkyo rec., Onkyo DVD, Direct Tv w/dvr. the only thing it won't run is my xbox, says you need to purchase additional equipment. that's ok because you can still put in the function to "play game" and it will switch to all the correct inputs on tv and reciever. then you can just turn on xbox with your wireless remote :) love it so far, got rid of 4 remotes and the wife is happy...would highly recommend

Good - but watch out for 5 device limitation
I already own two Harmony Ones and swear by them in terms of ease of use, flexibility and general usefulness. When I saw the 650 on offer prior to Black Friday the price made this too good to pass up...but.... The Harmony is constrained to only control 5 devices (to be fair, it clearly says so on the description and documentation). The issue is that if you consider a minimal home theater setup, you will have a TV set, Audio Receiver, BluRay player and Cable TV box as a minimum, and will also likely have other devices such as a game console, A/V switch, secondary disk player, etc. The upshot is that you will quickly hit the 5-device limit, at which point you will be unable to control all of your devices (and will want to buy a Harmony One) In short, if you are sure that you will not need to control more than 5 devices, this looks like a winner, but please count them carefully to make sure you didn't miss anything (like I did!) Also note that in order to program this device you will need to use your PC to access a website to manage this, but I have been doing so for years and this is no big deal.

Decent remote, some annoying issues
I have been enjoying the remote since I bought it in November. It was easy to set-up and dose its job. It helped the rest of my family who were overwhelmed by the receiver, set top box, television, and blu-ray player going all at once. However I have yet to completely avoid the "the tv wont turn on" phone calls from the family. There is 2 annoying reasons for this. One, I don't know if this is normal for universal remotes or not, but if I turn on any device manually (as in walk up and turn it on) the remote won't respond. I could turn everything on manually and the remote still will not change the channels. So then I am forced to turn everything off, and turn it all on with the remote. Secondly, it often goes into "tutorial" mode and makes you press all the buttons to get the remote working. Don't why it does this, but its annoying when you want to just turn on the television and you have to press a million buttons before. It does this kind of randomly.. Otherwise the latter two issues are not greater then the positive outcomes of eliminating 5 remotes.

All Equipment must be in same room
Logitech advertises will control all equipment you have and will buy. They neglect to tell you it ALL has to be in the same room. So if you have a DVR that controls a tV in another room/s, the logitech 650 will not control the device or devices in another room. It must have "line of sight".

Easy set up universal remote
This is a great universal remote. It was very easy to set-up; just plug it to your computer and follow the instructions. I love that you can put icons for your favorite channels instead of just the channel number showing on the remote screen. One thing I did not like about the remote was the numeric key pad placement. The bottom numbers, especially "0" was hard to press when using one hand to change channels. But it is not really a big deal. I would definitely recommend this remote.

The display is actually very useful
I was skeptical at first between getting this or the 300 series. I have a Denon receiver, and given the number of parameters you can change on that device I wasn't quite sure how a generic remote would be able to give me access to all the different settings. And this is where the display in the 650 shines!! Basically, you end up getting a visual guide to all the different settings. For the most part, you dont even need to look at the small displays on the receiver. I wouldn't honestly know how the 300 unit can do it without the display ...maybe you would end up having to customize buttons for those. Overall, very impressed at what this thing can do. Given how much I spend on Comcast each month, I wish Comcast included something useful like this. Definitely worth buying, specially if you are using a receiver....

A fantastic remote, but one caution
I bought this remote on Black Friday at half it's list price. Based on other reviews and a friend's recommendation, I had very high expectations. I had already confirmed that all my equipment was in the Logitech database (check for free before you buy), including a 22-year old Technics receiver. The setup program for the remote is very easy to use, but it also has the power to customize buttons and features and to edit the scripted activities, such as "Watch TV" or "Watch a Movie." Bottom line: This remote COMPLETELY replaces the remotes for my LG TV, AT&T U-verse DVR, Technics AV receiver, Sony DVD, and Sony CD carousel! My only caution is that I had to return the first remote after 2 days: The Stop and Mute buttons worked intermittently, and then the Play button stopped working completely. I reset the remote and even downloaded its configuration again, but the Play button wouldn't even wake up the remote. Best Buy exchanged it with no hassle, and the second remote is working perfectly so far. Good news: The remote's configuration is stored online, so it only took 2 minutes to download to the replacement. I will update this post in a week or so with an update on the replacement's durability.

Great price One button control Quirky setup
I got this remote (on sale $49.99) because I was tired of wife asking me how to switch over to watch different devices (i.e.Roku player). After programing one button and you have everything turned on to watch or work what devices are needed.. The remote works great with Direct TV Lg blue ray and Roku box and Sony sound system.. The only thing I had and difficultly with was the set up. First thing you have to do is download software from web site, Direction say only to go to web site, The other thing that took some time was finding where the Roku is listed., It was under digital music player, I found this out by going to web support forum. That is the last place i would have looked. I had to smart learn a few button on the DTV remote all other remotes were fine. Because this can only do 5 devices my son will still have to manually switch over to play his WII.But at this sale price and wife doesn't play WII I chose this model. My wife loves it so I am a happy camper!

The reason I gave it a value price of average is because, If you want to use this to control (Turn on and off also) your PS3. You need a Harmony Adapter which retails for $59.99. Now the whole point of this remote was to switch the source of the TV and control my PS3 to save on remotes. I am going to see if the next up Harmony Remote needs this adapter. If so, I'll just spend the money and get the adapter. Overall, the remote is awesome. Very easy to setup. All you need is your model #'s of the devices you want to control. Plus when you lift the remote up. The backlighting turns on. Controls my direcTV DVR perfectly. Has a button for list of recorded shows. Great remote for the cost other than the adapter needed for the PS3. If you do not have a PS3. This is Great for the cost. If it was not for the adapter. I would have gave it 5 stars all the way down. One more thing. I'm not sure about the battery life that others are saying is bad. But just get 2 rechargeables and you will have no issues.

Finally, a remote that operates properly
After many heartaches of trying different remote controls, the Harmony 650 solved 99% of my problems. Once I got the software issue figured out, the rest was a breeze. It even has its own troubleshooting mode while you're doing the intial testing. It automatically corrects mistakes! I'm very impressed.

Easy to use ... Not so easy to setup
This is my first Harmony remote and it's a pretty steep learning curve but after playing with the software for an hour or two it all seems to make sense. It took some time to work out HDMI inputs for my Insignia Plasma TV but that also makes sense after playing with the software some. Operation is dead easy once configured. I have it configured for: Dish Sat Box (model # VIP-722) Insignia 42: Plasma TV (model # NS-42P650A11) Blu-ray (model # BD-570 + wireless for Netflix) Home Theater (model # Durabrand HT-400) All components work well together with this remote once it's configured properly.

Jeremy's new remote
I rated the product as high as I could for a couple reasons. First off, it works. It controls everything in my living room as if it were made by the manufacturer of each and every (mismatched) device. Second, setup was incredibly easy, not fast mind you, easy. Yes it takes some time, figure on spending the better part of an hour programming this device, looking up model numbers, "teaching" it other goofy remote signals, etc. It is a lengthy process but not a difficult one, a Ph. D. in computer science is not needed, no Google'in remote codes, no frustration. The Logitech software is very easy to follow, giving simple step by step instructions. If you have trouble programming this remote I seriously question your ability to plug in a toaster. I have tried to program the remotes for my TV, receiver, cable, (all somewhat "universal"), and a cheap universal to get everything to work on one remote with very limited success. The cable remote would do the TV and cable box, but not the receiver or DVD player, the TV remote wasn't really good for anything, DVD remote would do the DVD and TV (go figure) but nothing else, cheapy universal was a good paperweight but was the only one that would turn the volume up or down on the receiver, the receiver remote would operate the receiver ONLY. Had an Easter basket full of remotes on the coffee table and was perpetually looking for one or two of them. Now ONE remote does EVERYTHING. My wife can even use it. Love this thing. God Bless Logitech!

Good All Around Universal
The screens are easy to use. Setup was easy For the random components not included in the database for set up, it's very easy to have the Harmony "learn" another remote. One button to rule them all.. if items don't start up as programmed in sequence the help menu is very easy to use. I find this does occur when switching from one function to another and then switching back to original function. all items do not sequence up accurately, but the help button takes care of that. I use it to control DVD/Surround/Stereo, TV, Satellite and PS2

The ability to control a multi room dvr
For multi room dvrs it is better to keep the original if you do not have a set top box. since the signal strength is poor going through walls and floors. But if you have a pc that hooks up to your tv I would recommend getting a tv card that has a ir extender included that way it will be able to control your dvr

Easy to set-up and use! My wife loves it!
I bought this remote specifically for my wife. Since I created a home-theater set-up, it's been a frustrating learning curve for her with all of the devices, inputs, etc. I got this remote this past weekend, and the bottom line is that my wife loves it. It's easy to use, well-laid out, and it runs on batteries vs. a plug-in rechargeable batteries. This last part is important because she didn't want to have one more thing to plug in. Set-up was a breeze. Not counting downloading and installing the software, the set-up was maybe 20 minutes tops. I'd highly recommend this remote.

Fairly easy to set up, but misses a few buttons
The Harmony 650 was fairly easy to set up using the Logitech remote software. All but my blu-ray player were in the database. The remote does a good job of capturing all of the individual remote's functionalities, but certain functions (like the "clear" button on the TiVo) did not work without manual setup. The remote feels good, but some of the buttons lack good positive feedback (the "ok" button in particular). The activity settings are nice, as they simplify turning on multiple devices and switching modes. On downside is the LCD display is small and offers only four functions. My blu-ray player has 11 pages of functions, which I don't like Overall, this device is a good way to eliminate multiple remotes, but has a few limitations.

Okay
This remote eats batteries. I've had it less than 3 months and have changed the batteries 3 times. Also, if it should drop on the floor, it thinks everything is off. If you were in the watch tv mode, you can no longer control anything. You need to cover the end with your hand so that it won't send any signals to the devices and press watch tv (or whatever you were doing) so that the remote gets back in sync.

Great Remote
Very easy to set up with the app set up and computer connection. Replaced a Phillips universal remote and this one if far superior. Very easy to use, easy action buttons, button spacing is good. I didn't even have to show children how to use it since it is so intuitive. Definately would recomment. Takes about 30 minutes to set up so put the time aside at the beginning to get it the way you want it and then you'll never have to adjust it agian. As far as battery life it has been working with no low indicator for a month which is much better than the phillips that it replaced.

disappointment
This is my 2nd Harmony remote. 1st - the set up was very very difficult because my Pioneer Receiver was too new of a product. 2nd - It drains batteries just as fast as my 5 year old Harmony Remote. I thought this would be fixed after 5 years. 3rd - My new Receiver takes so long to turn on, the remote doesn't send a signal for a long enough period of time to switch inputs. So if you want to watch a DVD, you have to press "Watch TV" until all of the devices are on, then press "Watch DVD" to switch inputs. 4th - The volume control is so slow. It takes forever to raise or lower the volume. The comcast remote is so much faster. Ironically my last Harmony remote would jump 6 decibals at a time. Harmony please fix this. Lastly - I spilled the tiniest amount of water on it about 4 months after I bought it. It didn't work for 2 days, now it works about 50% of the time. I am not pleased with this remote, and I am now online looking for a replacement for the $100 I wasted at the beginning of the summer.

Was I Wrong
I just knew that I would be making a trip back to Best Buy to return this. Boy was I wrong. It works great. Does take some time to set up. You must download the software off of the net. If you don't have high speed you will be there a while. It should come with a CD. After I set it up on the computer it did not work just right. All you do is use the help button on the remote and it fixed everything. Only had it a day so I don't know about durability. I did get the 2 year protection on it because of the kids. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because having to download the software.

Wish I had purchased one sooner
This is the greatest universal remote that I have ever owned. It has so many features and options. I was leery about spending so much on a remote control, but it has already been well worth the money. You can easily automate it to turn on every needed device, and tune them to the proper stations/settings. I am very technically apt, but even I had a little trouble figuring out the software, when attempting to modify some of my buttons. There are too many menus and it is not always clear where you need to be, to change certain settings. However, once I figured out where the settings were, I was able to completely customize every single button, to do whatever I wanted, even on a different device. You can also sync it up with a different remote to learn the commands. I now have my TV, DVR, Stereo Receiver, PS3 (using the $60 adapter), and my Air Conditioner programmed using this single remote. Love it!

Best thing since sliced bread
I read the reviews, Doubted most of them... (I have had some bad experiences in the past) BUT for the magical price that was offered on the Best Buy site, I purchased one. I am a tech geek so I went into this with my eyes wide open, My daughter purchased a harmony remote a few years ago and she had problems (never could) configuring it (Yes she is a tech geek too!). SO I thought I would also have issues and was ready to take it back. I MUST SAY, the program installed without problems, the hardest part was getting the "MAKE" and "MODEL" numbers of my equipment. My daughter and I walked through the setup on the software, the PC found and installed the device drivers (Windows XP), we plugged in the numbers for the equipment, went through the wizards and low and behold (AHHHH) everything worked the first time. We went through some of the other features and found that it will also control my XBOX 360, so we configured that too! We have a NetFlix account on the xbox and the remote will also control the xbox so you don't even need the xbox controller to watch movies... the 650 even has the X,A,B and Y buttons programmed in. It is truly a masterpiece of technology. I am recomending this controller for anyone that would like to get rid of 5 remotes and turn them into ONE... THIS ONE!!!!

All the settings from the 510 were transferred to the new 650.

This does it all!
Absolutely the most technically efficient remote you will need, especially for the price. Years ago, I purchased a Phillips Pronto for $400 and the 650 is superior in my opinion. I operate four devices (all different brands with their own unique functions) plus an A/C unit and this remote controls them flawlessly. The web-linked configuration s/w is so easy to use, a child could do it. The 650 incorporates more than enough hard and soft control buttons to efficiently operate even the most sophisticated devices. The backlights for the buttons and the screen illuminate immediately when you pick up the remote, so it's really convenient in a dark room. Trust me, this remote will meet or exceed your expectations.

Best remote out there
Never thought a universal remote was necessary, but was so sick of having 4 remotes on my end table, I decided to try it...Took about an hour to get it running properly, but it does everything it says and more... I no longer have to turn on each piece of equipment seperately...When I want to watch t.v., I just press the watch t.v. button and it turns on my cable box, sound system and t.v. automatically...If I switch to my Xbox, it'll turn off the cable box, turn on the Xbox and change t.v. from hdmi1 to hdmi2, all by pressing 1 button !!! The software recognizes over 5,000 devices, so even older models are recognized...I had 1 piece of equipment that it didn't totally recognize, but it had me place my old remote 2 inches from this one, and after pressing 3 buttons on old remote, it picked it up just fine... BUY THIS REMOTE!!! It will change the way you watch t.v.!!!

This is a TRUE universal remote; it will allow you to operate ALL of your devices. Just a few reminders: a) remember to shut down your firewall while it's downloading the info it needs, b) use the "Devices" task screen to operate everything and c) make sure all your devices are plugged in before downloading the codes. It comes with a 90 day free tech support with operators who are REALLY patient with people like myself with whom technology can be kind of intimidating. However, once you complete the initial set up, just sit back, point, and click!

This Remote is Amazing!!!
The Logitech Harmony 650 Remote is amazing. It took me a few hours to program it right, in the same day I brought it home. But when I finally programmed it correctly the 5 different electronic components work exactly like I want them to. I'm so glad to put away the other 5 remotes for just this one. The computer transfer set-up was very easy also. I especially like being able to teach the 650 Remote to recognize 1 component that wasn't in the Logitech catalog of electronics. The Remote-To-Remote transfer was fast and efficient. If you want to get rid of all those remotes and replace it with just one, the Logitech Harmony 650 Remote is the best buy for the dollar because it can easily manage all of your electronics. You don't have to pay the higher prices to get a great working remote.

best remote for the money
I have often looked at getting a remote but never wanted to spend $200 and have this big thing that was big as the remotes i was replacing . So i had read some reviews I got this remote on sale for $75. I get it home it is no bigger or heavier then any of the remotes. You have to get all of your product model numbers but when you do set up is a snap you have to go to the web site and down load the software which it could have been a little bit more clear in the owners manual on how to do that then you hook up your remote to the computer follow the screens and it tells you what to do and everything worked the first time there is a help button right on the remote which fixes most any small problem if you really know what you are doing you can set up the buttons they you want them which is cool here is my set up tv, receiver, dvr cable box, ps3 and xbox 360 remote controls all of them yes even the xbox 360 and ps3 but for the ps3 you do have to buy a $60 add on to get it to work which kinda of sucks. with the push of a button it turns on what you need and puts eveything to the right settings if you have to many remotes then this is for you i could go on and on about it if you have more then five things you will need to spend more money and get the next serires up or so but for most people this should work fine

Overall-excellent value
I had to purchase this since using multiple remotes was driving my family crazy. Setup was simple via USB cord to CPU to Logitech website. The kids love that I have downloaded the icons of their favorite channels onto the remote & they can easily select their channels. My only semi-issue is that I like to watch my LCD with the surround system & the kids could care less so I have to do a few extra steps to get the surround to work when I watch TV. Listening to surround when I watch a DVD is a snap-but I obviously cannot have the TV audio hooked up to 2 things-no biggie really-I certainly have been pleased with it and my family now has less angst when navigating the LCD. PS-even the Wii is easier since you can program a game device & simply press one button and the output channel goes right to AV2-slide a game in and you're good to go.

My son had to set it up because there's no way I could figure it out...but I'm not very tech minded so that's not really surprising. But, it's set up and I love that I can watch tv or a movie with just a click of a button. Great remote for simple HT setups.
I have a ton of experience with Harmony remotes and I've grown very accustomed to them. I have the Harmony One for my main remote on the main system but I needed a simple remote for an Xbox (media center extender), TV and a cable box. I bought the 650 and have had great luck with it. It's lightweight, comfortable in the hand, mostly backlit, inexpensive, overall a great remote if you don't have a lot of equipment and don't want a touchscreen. My only complaints are the top main activity buttons are not backlit despite them being used commonly and it costs $50 more to get a remote with a rechargeable Li-ion battery. If you're looking for an easy-to-use remote, don't have a lot of equipment and don't want to spend a ton of money, then this remote is for you.

Great Design and Value
I have progarammed and sold over 200 Harmony Remotes in the past five years. My first experience with Harmony was the 659 which I still like. My current favorite is the Harmony One but I am aware that the Harmony One is overkill and too expensive for some people. I have been waiting for a lessor expensive alternative to the Harmony One and the 650 is it. The 650 has a very similar design and button layout as the Harmony One. It has a backlight and tilt sensor. It programs the same as other Harmony Remotes. My only two reservations are the five component limit and adjusting the turn on delay for the TV must be done on the remote, not within the software. I am guessing that Harmony feels anyone who needs to control more than five components will consider the Harmony One and I agree. My ideal remote is one that can be operated with one hand and thumb. Also it should be designed so you do not need to look at it to operate it. You should be able to operate everything by the feel and location of the buttons. Judged on that, the 650 and Harmony One are nearly ideal. The 650 was on sale for $79.99 when I bought it and I consider it a great value for that price. Even at the normal $99.99 price I feel it is a great value.

The best remote I've ever used
Never again will I go back to using a generic remote. This remote shows me how good a universal remote can be. Once configured, you will never need to provide instructions to guests on how to watch TV, or a DVD for that matter. This is far beyond the universal remotes of a few years ago. It's truly a customized remote. Setup took me about 45 minutes. That includes time to tweak the settings on a few of the buttons. During setup you supply information about the components in your system, and the inputs that everything is connected to. The guided setup was clear, however I can see how some non technical people could experience problems. After running setup, you connect the remote to the computer and have the remote programmed. The buttons on the remote are mapped based upon activity. When you press watch TV, the various components are turned on and turned to the correct inputs. The buttons are configured to watch TV. The Volume will control the Stereo, and the channel the cable box. Press watch a Movie, and the DVD player turns on and again, inputs are changed. The buttons can have their assignments changed in software. This way you can customize the remote to work the way you want it to. The LED screen on the remote is used for additional buttons. You can create multiple screens for each activity, with each screen having 4 buttons. This allows you to still have access to some of the lesser used functions. The LED screen is also used with Help. If you press the watch TV button, and it's not working, press Help and it will ask you questions that you can answer with a simple yes or no. Questions such as is the TV turned on. In the end, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. I'm already planning on giving this remote as a gift for my parents and will be recommending this to friends and family. Logitech has found a buyer of their remotes for life.

Almost Universal
The "quickstart" instructions give an incomplete site address. The indicated site to register must include "/en-us" before "/myharmony". After finding the proper website, registering and opening an account, I was able to download the owner's manual file, and programming software, which I installed. Programming is a bit tedious, but straight forward, once one knows what is needed to make best use of this remote. Learning what needs to be programmed and using the software can take several days of trial and reprogramming the remote. The one-button activation of all the components of our home entertainment system for a given activity, such as "Watching a Satellite Movie or a DVD", is great. The ability to select a specific device on the remote and find a device-specific action from the display window makes this remote nearly a universal one for our needs.

Really Good Universal Remote
I consolidated 3 remotes into this 1. My previous remote was programmed using the original remotes of the devices. Placing them face to face. This remote requires a computer and online access. Once you have that it's pretty easy....even if you decide to stick with the defaults it sets up it does a great job. Usually, I would never spend $100 on a remote, but I had a gift card and it was on sale. But, after setting it and seeing how easy it was I wouldn't mind spending up to $75 for it. It allows for easy upgrades and adding new devices (online). I think I might eventually add my Panasonic TV in my room and digital antenna converter (if possible) to the remote. One fault that I found, which wasn't big, was that I had to switch to Receiver mode before I could adjust the volume since that's what I have all my components running through. My devices: Onkyo A/V Receiver, Onkyo DVD Player, Samsung Plasma TV.

Great Remote
Great device, for me the set up was long, but this was why: I have my TV power cable connected to my cable box, so if the Box is turned on the TV turns on, and the same to turn it off. Well the remote wants to turn the TV on about the same time it turns on the Box. So I had to change the order in which the remote turns on each device, but this step is not a part of the initial set up. Its actually after you finish that you see each Activity and can select the Settings for each Activity. I do believe the set up time would have been about 20 minutes less if it was. Another thing is this option to change what turns on first must be done for each Activity, so for my play video game activity I also had to be sure the cable box went on before the TV and you can actually set a delay when the signal to the TV is sent after the box is on (but again not part of the initial set up). Once done this thing worked great.

This remote makes all the units fully functional as if it was the remote that came with the unit. You can set it up to turn on and off whatever you want based on what activity you are doing ie. dvd, tv etc. If it is not correct... no worry, it asks you if everything you need is on and if it is not, it corrects it for you.
