Extended coverage to an ultra-wide-angle 24mm makes it ideal for digital as well as film shooters, and the optics are even better than before with two aspherical elements and a totally new UD glass element.... more

  • Fastest zoom lens out there!

This is a lens that everyone must have in their arsenal, its amazing for everyday use and performs like a champ at night. it's super fast at 2.8 and that covers the entire range 24-70 unlike some other lenses. this is the next best thing you can get before investing in prime lenses. people have been complaining about getting a 'good copy' but i'm pretty sure QC has fixed most of that. this is the best all-around-lens you can buy, get rid of your kit lens and throw this on your body and you'll never touch that kit lens again

  • I love the color saturation!!!

This is lens is now the staple lens in my bag. The colors are super rich and the sharpness is great all the way to wide open. Be prepared for the weight. It feels very comfortable with my 5D MKII but if you have a Rebel be ready for the camera to become very front heavy. If this will be your first L lens, you will be hooked on L glass forever.

  • You get what you pay for which is a good thing...

I'm an advanced amateur photographer that just couldn't convince myself that the drastic cost difference of going with an OEM Canon "L" series lens could really be that much better than the Sigma lenses that I used over the past 5 years. Well, I took the plung when BB had a 36 months-no interest/same as cash offer and purchased the 24-70 f/2.8. Granted that it was back ordered and took 2 months to have it delivered but was worth the wait. The quality of the images right out of the gate were drastically better than the Sigma lenses that I had which were considered their top of the line EX/HSM zooms. The color and contrast were more vibrant and tack sharp. Two things that I would comment but not consider it a negative, the weight is substantially more than what people are used to and I found that the sharpest pictures are at f/4 or f/5.6. The f/2.8 is great to have for those low light situations but just make sure that you know where you want to have your focal point, otherwise the picture will come out looking too soft with too much bokeh. In the end, I have realized that when it comes to camera lenses, there is no such thing as a good cheap lens and you get what you pay... Well worth the investment...

  • You get what you pay for...

... and it's worth every penny! But on a serious note. It is a very nice lens to have if you are planning on making money via photography. Great for weddings, ect.

  • Excellent lens for the money

I bought this lens a month ago. It is everything that I expected it to be. I have taken fantastic sunset pictures and landscape photo and have no regrets. The photos are very sharp and vivid. This is my 2nd Canon prime lens. I also have the 2.8 70 -200 mm lens for my Canon 40d. The lens is a little pricey, but once you see your photos, you will decide that it is worthy every penny. I even got used to the weight of the lens, so it doesn't bother me when I'm shooting photos. The only drawback is that I wish that it was an IS lens. But other than that it is a fantastic lens to own.

  • Simply a "Must Have" lense

I am not a professional photographer nor a novice, but I have nearly 5 years of photographing experience as a hobby or occasional friend's wedding photographer. I have used many of Canon's lense and many other lenses such as Tamron, Sigma, Tokina. I would find myself occasionally selling my lenses because I was not happy with the quality of the photos. So I finally decided to save up for Canon's L series lense. This lense was actually my second L series lense that I have own. First, being the 24-105 f/4 and second, being this 24-70 lense. I remember the first photo I shot with this lense was incredible! I was astound by the quality and sharpness this lense has produces. I sold the 24-105 because I was not satisifed with it. First being the f/4 aperture. It does not do well in low lighting conditions. Second, being that the corner is a bit softer than the 24-70. The 24-70 produces more crisp and sharper photos than the 24-105. One downfall of the 24-70 is that its a bit bulkier and heavier than the 24-105 lense. Which makes it uncomfortable to carry around over a period of time especially on hikes, trips, vacations, etc. I also wish that it has Image stabilization the 24-105 have especially when you have moving objects. Overall, its a great lense. BestBuy is a great place to buy from, great service, great warranty. What more can you ask for? Its a must have lense!

  • Best lens ever I had

This is the best lens that I have ever had. Bright and easy to use. The only concern is a little bit heavier than expected.

  • Best Buy customer service great, lens not so great

While this lens gets great reviews, if you google for a loose focus ring, you will see that there are big manufacturing quality control issues--ie., it's not just the ones I got. The first one I received had a really loose focus ring. It had a lot of play in it, would actually click when moved front and back, up and down. I called Best Buy customer service, they said I could return it to the local store, which I did. The customer service guy at the store was great, took it back with no hassle and ordered another for me immediately. A few days later I got the second one--and bad news, the same problem. Not quite as bad but still not acceptable in any lens. I have several thousand dollars' worth of professional lenses and have never seen this problem before. Again, I took it back to the Best Buy store, and again had great customer service. However, this time I decided to just return the lens for a refund. I didn't have time to go through the whole procedure again in case the third copy was bad too. I ordered a Tokina 17-50 elsewhere, and it is perfect. I think the Canon is probably a bit sharper, but there's more to a lens than sharpness. If you get a good copy, the 24-70 can be a great lens, but be sure to buy from someplace reputable, like Best Buy online, so you can take it back if necessary.

  • First Good Glass

It will be a workhorse, manual focus is not as crisp as I would like to see auto focus is good. Would have liked this glass to include image stabilizer. Will be a welcome addition to my glass selection.

  • The wedding lens

This makes a great wedding lens, works well in low light places. The range is nice from 24- 70 works well on my Canon 40D, canon 1D and Canon EOS 3. The best thing about this lens is the Av is 2.8 throught the range of the lens. It make a great walk around lens as well as a portrit lens. The down fall to the lens is it is heavy, if you have a 40D you need a Battery Grip to keep a nice balence on your camera. On my Canon 1D and EOS 3 both with BG there is a noticeable difference on the balence. The Price justifies in the Lens once you use it and see your results.

  • Amazing

The price is high, but once you go L class...there is no going back! the sharpness, colors, saturation is absolutely amazing. if you are considering this and the 24-105, i have shot with both and they are both very sharp, with the exception of the 24-105 corner softness and the f4 vs the f2.8. this lens is so worth the money. rent both lenses and make you decision. i got this over the 24-105 and i do not regret it.
