The best laptop I've owned so far
I have owned four laptops since 2004 and I can say this is the best so far. My husband was discouraging me from buying this but after my love affair with the apple products (2 iPads, 4 iPods) I can say that I am extremely pleased with the performance of this brand. I wonder why people were raving about their MacBooks years before and now that I have one, I can relate to them. The graphics display were awesome!!! The loading of the website was super fast that you don't have to wait for ages before you see the page you wanted as compared to other laptops. From the minute you turn on the computer, to the time you see your start up page it takes less than a minute. Comparing it to my previous laptops, oh my golly!! I've gone to brew me a tea and when I come to the computer the start up page is still loading. This product doesn't need an anti virus! The micro trend I bought was returned because it wasn't compatible and when I asked what anti virus is compatible with this product, they told me it doesn't need one. Don't you just love it? So for those people procrastinating about buying this product, go for it!!! The best thing? Buy it from Best Buy because they have the 0% financing for 18 mos which I took. Of course got to pay it before then.. Right?

I usually don't like Apple products...
I really don't like much of Apple's product but I have to admit the Macbook Pro is the best laptop out there. It has a Modern look, feels solid (not like other pc plastic laptops), runs efficiently, and user friendly. I do have a complaint about Apple products, its that they are over priced. I can get the same specs as this macbook pro for $600-700. But why I spend the money and buy an Mac its because I love the looks and the great and powerful OS.

Amazing computer
Pros: Amazing display, Long battery life (the package and Apple website say 7 hours but you can easily make 8-9 if you turn the backlight to low and turn the keyboard backlight off) Amazingly fast (granted the model I bought has an upgrade to i7 instead of i3-5) Lion is astounding, Magnetic charger is a Godsend, Easy to set up even if you have no tech experience, Preloaded with everything you need to get started. Cons: Have to be plugged into a router for initial start-up, Hard to get used to automatically may take a day or two if you are a Windows user or only a few hours if you are familiar with Linux/UNIX/BSD based systems, Price can be a slight barrier, but this is also negated by the fact that the device lasts much longer than a traditional PC (I know several people with MacBook Pros that they bought at initial launch that are still working) I really can't say anything bad about it beyond the few minor nuisances.

customer service has been poor
This is my first mac and I needed help setting it up. I paid for geek squad help, but when I went to Best Buy the rep tried to set it up but was unable to do so. She advised me to call Apple and said they would walk me through it. I called Apple and because the mac was an "open item" the original sale date of April made it out of date for courtesy help. So I had to pay another $265.00 for a contract with Apple to help me. I could have paid $49.00 for a one problem help contract, but was afraid that the geek squad would fail to help again the next time I needed it. We have bought all our tech products at Best Buy for years and been happy with the service and products, but this time the service has been very poor.

I Love Mac and will never turn back...
This is my second Mac Notebook, but first Macbook Pro. It is all that I had hoped that it would be. The speed is unmatched. And feels good to not have to worry about all of the mess that comes with PC. I am a Mac user, and will probably not be dealing with anything else anytime soon.

Love Mac
I bought this Mac to replace one that even after having a whole cup of coffee dumped on the keyboard, eventually worked again with no repairs, although it was getting quirky. I love the ease of this Mac, but it took me a bit to set it up as the new OS changed a very basic operation.

Simple, Clean, & Works Great
I've been a PC user for decades, with my only experience with Apple were the Apple 2e's in my elementary schools. I've been through many laptops, and each one either broke down, or literally broke. Not to say that Macbooks will never experience this, but I have to admit, the feel of the unibody, the responsiveness and simplicity of the OS, and the fact that everything just works is what makes me really like this laptop and the OS inside. Now, I know I live on the browser, but the app store is very useful. And because they're made specifically for Lion the apps are much more reliable than the programs I'd download for Windows. And that's the best part about this laptop. It works, it works well, and after a month of use, is easy to transition from Windows. I'm not hating on Windows, I have a lot of love for it, but Lion right now, just really makes working on a computer so painless. Sure I lose some programs, games, etc, but that's not why I got this Macbook Pro. I got it because I wanted a computer that would last years, would be reliable, and wouldn't need as much maintenance as my old Windows laptop. And I can already tell that I'll be an Apple user for a long time.

Perfect
I upgraded from my old Lenovo ThinkPad to this Macbook Pro. I wish I had switched to Mac years ago. I was a bit hesitant to buy the Mac because of the price. But I'm very glad I took the plunge. My Macbook Pro 13" lasts 2x-3x as long on a single battery charge as my Lenovo ThinkPad did, it is much, much faster performing any task I ask it to do, it was far easier and quicker to set up than my laptop was 3 years ago, it is more compact but its build is far sturdier, the display resolution is better, the keyboard is easier and quieter to type on; especially with the backlighting feature, the speakers' sound quality and power are far better than my PC's were, and the OS is more user friendly than my PC was. Do yourself a favor and get a Mac if you don't have one.

Love it.
First Mac, always owned and used PC's so the transition was SOMEWHAT difficult. I miss the "Home" and "End" keys. Hooking it up to the printer was such a hassle and let's not mention iWorks, was HORRIBLE. I ended up purchasing Microsoft Office for Mac. I love it way better. The documents being downloaded (for school purposes) did not open up properly on iWorks. So let's say, within the first week I was already hating myself for buying this expensive laptop. But I got over it. I love the Calendar feature, it keeps me well organized. I noticed the battery goes out quick tho, the first time I used it, I allowed it to die completely before charging it. I charged it and used it, and it lasted for a few days, I would put it to sleep instead of completely shutting it down. Now, it dies within 4 hours, so that's a bummer. It's kinda heavy for me, specially because I carry a binder, heavy hardback textbook, and a lunchpail to school, but other than that, I am merely satisfied.

No clear advantage
Gave it one star because there is no zero stars. Make no mistake: there is NOTHING a Mac can do that a PC cannot while the opposite is not true: there are a lot of things a PC can do that a Mac cannot. Do not be fooled by the "you can run Windows on top of the Mac OS" - this is not 100% true and stupid anyway. Why do they want to run Windows? Ar they not satisfied with their OS? Or is it that Windows is THE OS. How about Linux? I am a firm believer of Linux and Android and time will sow that open source will win. Anyway, the "if you are after graphics get a Mac" is not true either. I found the Mac Pro with a core i7 processor to be much slower than my 2 year old ASUS with integated nVIDIA graphics. Do not be fooled by statements like "I even gave one to my parents and they can use it, they just close the screen and the computer shuts off" --- these are nothing but ridiculous statements that have been produced by Apple to stay afloat with the Macs that will likely never be useful. Careful also in choosing your laptop: these Macs will likely not be compatible with your workplace systems. Want more? You can access your home computer with your Mac laptop.....for about $100 a year. With a PC is a little cheaper: FREE. By the way with a Mac you can display in your home TV.....after you go crazy with the connections, software, drivers and pay the adapter. With the PC laptop is more difficult: you just have to plug it in and that's it. I am the kind that likes to maximize windows for easy viewing and browsing, it also prevents me from clicking on wrong stuff out of the window, well, the Apple Co. people do not want me to work that way: you are not allowed to maximize windows. Period. Yes, you can download or purchase some software to do the max windows but is cumbersome. Let me stop. This is gonna create the usual charade of non-sense statements and angry comments of the super-cool Mac-people which will be disgusting to say the least. Bottomline: I tried this expensive useless thing, got to know the OS and other details well and ......put it back to the shelf in the store, so do not miss your chance to buy it, there is an extra one from me, it may be on sale.

Great laptop.
I've had several laptops before; I've used Toshibas, Dells, HPs, etc, and none have made me as happy as this Macbook Pro. The display, though small, is incredible. It is incredibly fast while browsing, and it is great for storing pictures in iPhoto. iTunes is probably my most used program, and it runs faster on this computer than it did on my Windows based PCs. Should I ever have to use Windows, I could always pick up some software and dual-boot. This computer will allow you to get the best of both worlds, and the 500GB memory/4GB RAM is wonderful. The price is a bit steep, however it is worth every cent.

Light, Fast and Great Build Quality
I never had a Mac before and all I can say is I don't know why I waited so long to get one. This machine is made to be bullet proof. The look is very pleasing to the eyes and working with the new Lion OS is both easy and very intuitive. All I can say is if your thinking about a Mac, don't wait, make the move. They are a bit pricey, but in my opinion, worth the premium for the ease of use and build quality.

What to say What to say....
Well I like how everything looks. The display is amazing, but what I do not like about it is... They are really expensive for something that really is not that much better than any other laptop out there. You really are only buying the name. There are many apps for it on the bright side, But on the downside you have to pay for them. They are hard to get compatible content. Not many things are compatible with the Macbook, and I am in school and I have to get office for my mac and it really is so expensive. What is great about my Mac? Well my mac is pretty fast. I do like that. I can control all these different settings and It works well with my iPod. I was having issues with compatibility for that one until I got my Mac. All in all it is a good computer, but they should really lower the price.

First off if you are on the fence about switching over from the PC / Window's land, take my advise and I am sure plenty of other's....do it. The whole experience of using a Mac is just so much "cleaner". Everything makes sense. This Macbook Pro is perfect. Keep in mind it's a laptop so I prefer the smaller 13" screen. I upgraded the memory to 8GB and it's greatness in a box.

Great computer - excellent performance!
So like I expected from Apple, this computer is dead-on reliable, super super fast & a great fit in my lifestyle. It's not too big, and it's not too small. If this MacBook Pro is anything like my G4 MacBook, it will last at least 5-6 years or longer, as my old one is still going. At least you don't have to worry about it not working a few years from now. I did rate the display as 4 out of 5 stars because I feel it should have a higher available resolution, and I would like a dedicated graphics card like the 15" MacBook Pro has. This model of the 13" is great on performance, however the entry level 13" MacBook Pro seems to be a better "value per dollar" - but I chose to spend the extra $300 for the increased performance and am very pleased with the product. Our local Sioux Falls, South Dakota store has excellent and friendly help and without doubt is the best place in Sioux Falls to shop for a variety of entertainment electronics and big TV's.

Small and easy to use. No puzzling glitches
Love the mac. It's easy to use, programs install seemlessly, printers, networks hook up seemlessly. A little slow on the internet but I'm thinking it might be the Trend micro that came free with it. Perhaps I'll try another security program (free) one that was recommended by my "computer guru". Moving from a PC I had a bit of a learning curve to operate the functions but once I learned, I can use the touch pad on the macbook pro with ease - no need for a mouse attached. This is great because moving around without having to tote a bunch of perepherals is really nice. I really love the compactness of this laptop.

What took me so long to
Well we own 5 window base laptops. Than we started buying Apple products, iphone 3gs, iphone 4, ipad 1 and ipad 2. So we were almost there in the conversion. About 4 weeks ago we bought the 13.3 with the I-5 and let me tell you guys, to get it operational it was as easy as it can be. We have not owned a mac before and it is as great as advertise. Anyway it is so good that I went back 2 weeks after purchase and upgrade to this model with the I-7 and bigger hard drive. These laptops are so well built that it is a delight to unpacked it. it is solid feeling, we purchase 2 Incase perforated cases (black and a white one), so the beautiful laptop does not get scratch. The Safari system it's easy to get use to and other dock applications are very simple to learn. To close I don't have anything against window base laptops, I just wish that construction and attention to detail was closer to Apples. If you can afford it you will not regret it.

People that complain about this Macbook have probably never owned a Mac product. This computer is a workhorse. It's probably one of the fastest machines on the market. I've own it for 3 days and not one time has the fans been overly loud. Not one time has the thing overheated. It runs warm. OF COURSE IT DOES, it's got alot going on inside. You're talking about an i7 2.7 Sandy Bridge that turbos over 3.3. The computer is great. Bottom line. You get what you pay for. It's expensive but it's made to last and worth every penny. It's a great buy right now because it's on sale and if you're like me I got an extra $100 off for educators. Sweet

I love my Macbook Pro
After being a dedicated Windows user since 1993 I decided to make the switch to Mac. I have never been happier. My only complaint is the premium price paid. I wish Apple's prices were just a bit lower. This laptop runs like a champ and has been a joy to use. The battery life is amazing and the ease of use makes me wonder why I waited so long to switch to Mac. Things I like: The form factor is great for transporting your machine with you. I take it to work every day and it's so light compared to my Windows Gateway laptop I replaced. Granted the Gateway was 15" and this is a 13" system. The power brick is tiny and weighs a lot less than my previous bricks, the extension can be left at home and just the shorter cord and brick taken when traveling cutting down on bulkiness and weight. The trackpad is amazing! I hated the trackpads on all past laptops. Too small and hard to use. I always used a laptop mouse. Well with this one you do not need to use a mouse. The pad is roomy and the gestures reduce the strain on your hands while using the pad. Scrolling is super easy and efficient. If you do need a mouse I highly recommend buying Apple's Magic Mouse and extending some of the gestures from the pad onto the mouse. Overall I have yet to find anything I do not like about this Macbook Pro and, because I am so satisfied with this machine, I doubt I'll ever buy Windows machines again.

Overheats, Poor Battery Life & Doesn't Turbo Boost
I'm shocked to see all of these positive reviews. This is my second 2011 MBP, the first one was freezing because of overheating issues so they gave me a replacement and the second one was no different. At idle this thing is running at a very hot 65c. Start to watch a Youtube video and forget it, temps will hit up to 90c. Even just typing something in word, the laptop would feel hot and your palms would feel very warm (very annoying). This is the worst part of the situation, Apple is fully aware of the problem and if you try to run Windows (like most people do) you cannot use Turbo Boost. I double checked to see if mine was boosting and it only stayed at 2.7GHz which means that the core i5 (which does boost) actually runs faster. So technically, the Core i5 is faster (SAVE YOUR MONEY) Battery life was also an issue, I was lucky if I even got 4 hours out of it just by web browsing. This seems to be a common problem too when I checked on the Apple forums. I was really excited to own this laptop specially since it was my first Macbook. Everyone keep saying how "it just works" and I was hearing all of the raves. The look and feel are great, this thing aesthetically looks very nice and even though the body is not new, it's still has a modern look. I don't recommend this laptop to anyone, but if you must get it make sure you buy an extended warranty or Apple care because at those temps this processor will only last so much.

Great switch
Before purchasing this computer I read a lot of information online about the difference between a PC and a Mac. My main focus was whether or not the Mac was worth the hefty price tag or not, and whether I could have gotten the same performance out of a PC and paid less money. I will never go back on my decision as both my wife and I believe this is the best computer we could have purchased. This thing is unbelievable. It's very fast, extremely user friendly, and is basically set up when you buy it. We had to install a couple of things but for the most part, this thing is set up and ready to go. Since I don't know a lot about computers, one thing I like is that this machine walks you through every installation process and tells you exactly what it's doing in terms you can understand. The biggest thing I had to overcome when purchasing this machine was the price so if there is anyone contemplating whether this computer is worth the price or not, the answer is YES definitely. Paying the extra money is more than worth it!

Comparison with previous version
I just bought a 13" MacBook Pro about six months ago. At the time it was the clear winner between the air and the mbp. (I am a software engineer) Now, before there is even a scratch on my lovely mbp, here is a new round of updates. Pro: i7 is sexy, I wish I had one. The 13" is a powerhouse for it's size and weight, and for the first time in my life, I am actually carrying it around and using it in the car, and in waiting rooms. I have never returned home with less than 1/2 charge left. Cons: Losing the 800KHz firewire is bad. My time machine backup is a firewire drive, and 800KHz firewire is significantly faster than the USB 2.0 alternative. Now I have a great 2TB USB-3.0 drive and no machine in the house that can use it. Apple's decision to go their own way instead of embracing USB 3.0 will require time before it is clear it was a good idea. But for now, it is a problem, No transition just no Firewire and a new interface requiring new devices to be purchased. My 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/4GB 1067MHz DDR3 is already fast in my opinion, and I don't have personal experience with the i7 making it a must have. Since Apple is the source of the OS and the hardware, I wish they had brought out a new version of Mac OS X instead, one that existing users could utilize without having to re-buy the hardware. Focusing on selling new versions, when their hardware has a longer lifetime in comparison, is hard on people with conventional incomes. I am not the kind of guy who buys the new model car each year. I would wait for at least another version and let the new connectivity shake out a bit before investing 2k.

No "pretend" small computer here!
Apple, upped the Ante with this one. with a 500gb HD, I5 processor, 4GB memory and apple engineering and reputation for quality, this machine tops the list. If it had a 17" screen, it would still be better and faster than most anyone else's premium high end computers. Apple doesn't put inferior parts into a computer, nor are there sacrifices in engineering. the rest of the market is still trying to figure out one pice aluminum bodies, while apple keeps charging ahead. The only reason Not to buy this computer, is that you can't afford it. It will last longer than the rest so figure in how long it will last. These are leading edge tech. As for apple operating system. No need here for antivirus as with windows, Oh yeah, apple provides updates similar to Windows, but doesn't have to with the regularity that windws does.... Why? Because their operating system actually works. But, the hard drive is big enough so that if you feel the need you can also run windows on it too. If you can afford it... buy it.

Excellent Upgrade for Existing MacBook Users
I purchased my last MacBook 3 years ago. For three (3) years I used this Core 2 Duo with 4GB of memory with VMware Fusion and was able to play and work on the same device--keeping all of my work stuff in VM machines and my play in combination of native Mac OS X and VM machines. Waiting for the Intel i-series processors in a 13.3" chassis was my main goal--and the fact that they upgraded to the Sandy Bridge processors was the icing on the cake. I was hoping for the i3 but then I ended up with the i7 and I was thrilled. I purchased this on launch-day (February 24, 2011) for $1,500 [minus BestBuy Bucks ;)] and the only thing I found a little low-end was the 4GB memory. I upgraded that to 8GB and now have a machine that will last me for another 3 years--no problem. I am regularly seeing battery life in the 5 - 6 hour range while running on battery (although I have only had 4 to 5 cycles so far) but this is pretty good since I run multiple VM machines [Windows 7, Ubuntu and Windows 2003 Server] on a regular basis. The Good -------------- - Solid chassis made of metal - Quiet operation - Fast processor chipset - Power brick size very compact - Safe magnetic power connector - Long battery life (even running VM machines) - Auto-dimming and screen brightness compensation - Back-lit keyboard The Bad ------------ - The cost (wish this were about $500 less expensive) - Pretty metal case (this can't last too long as I know I will scratch it) - 13.3" only has a "Glossy" display option - Needs a "dongle" for VGA output to a projector [extra cost $29] - Trackpad integrates "click" button into entire pad [getting used to this] This is a great machine but as mentioned it would be great and unbeatable if it were priced about $250 to $500 less. That would be a great "financial" incentive for many users to take the plunge over to Apple hardware; but you do get what you pay for.

love that they decided to add a usb port faster than usb 3.0 and got rid of that firewire port. but the removal of the disc drive is mind boggling. i though maybe they would add a blu ray drive not take the whole optical drive out. i am glad that it comes with a free upgrade to tiger and that it is very light. they might as well get rid of the air now. this sandy bridge is real nice and matte screens on 13inch fnally as an option was sweet. i love this thing time to sale my 11 inch air. didnt even know they werre out till i almost bought one today and the guy in electronics told me they came in yesterday.
