  • Device work like a charm

I am enjoying this device even more than I purchased it for. The main thing I wanted to do was to provide screen-shows on my big-screen for clients and it does so much more!

  • What a surprise!

I worked for Apple and expected this to be a letdown, as I had experience with previous Apple TV's. I was wrong. Setup took about a minute, and this thing has outperformed every one of my expectations. I am very, very happy!

  • just the best!

I love this device just because of the fact of Air Play!

  • I like it a lot more than I thought I would.

I did not buy one until OS5 came out which allows mirroring from the ipad to the screen. This allows me to show various web videos on screen and put web pages up on the screen for everyone to see at the same time. I also discovered that I use it to watch a lot of podcast videos because it is so easy to use for this. It is also a good Netflix box. My wife likes how it can show photos on the tv. My only wish would be for the movie rentals to come down in price, most new movies are $5 vs the $1 for Redbox. Hulu would be nice also and maybe Amazon Video. I realize these compete with Apple a little bit so it probally will not happen. I have have used it way more than I thought I would.

  • If you have apple products, you need this!!

Awesome device! Great for viewing your pictures and videos on the television screen - especially if you have a larger TV. The wireless is good but the playback seems to work better if you are connected to your network using the standard CAT 5 cables.

Very User Friendly. Love the Netflix integration and the ability to use Airplay to stream from my iPad.

  • Like my Apple toys

So Apple TV is a bit of a miss based on some of the streaming wants and desires. We can't stream enough for it to replace Cable, but having airplay with the IPHONE and IPAD makes this pretty cool. I like being able to let my son see the Garage band on TV while he plays and he loves the Sesame street audio books on there. Definitely like the streaming of music over trying to get it all to copy like the first ATV. As long you understand what you are getting this is a great product.

  • AWESOME LITTLE DEVICE!

I purchased the Apple TV about 2 weeks ago after a massive amount of research and decision making. So far 'm loving it. It's extremely small and wireless. Right now I'm using it with the TV in my bedroom and although the wireless router is in my livingroom, I haven't had any issues with buffering or slow connection. I'm constantly uploading movies to my itunes to watch while just laying in bed. No need for a bulky BluRay player taking up space. I also enjoy being able to listen to my Itunes through the TV while I'm cleaning up or just laying down. My only wish, as of now, would be the ability to access my Hulu and Pandora accounts. But other than that, APPLE YOU ROCK!

  • Great device for streaming

I am pleased with the technology and easy to use options on the device. it has replaced my cable subscription and saved $55 each month versus our old 2 yr agreement with direct tv. The ease of queueing up your itunes library to your tv is great for the whole family. This also works well with mac and iphone, airplay allows you to move from one device to another and accommodate everyone in the family.

  • Best smart t.v. Adapter

I bought this little device a least 3 months ago. It is amazing overall. I had bought the Logitech revue, and set it up. It destroyed my home network, I had to restart my whole router. I used it for 4 days and was not impressed at all. I returned it for the apple tv, and immediatey fell in love. The fact that it came in such a small box worried me, but I hooked it up and was blown away. It was a very quick and easy setup. It took5 minutes. And because of the A4 chp, it ran incredibly fast. Then I got my iPad and the experice got so much better. I could display all of my pictures, AirPlay videos and much more. But to make things even better, iOS 5 came out. Mirror for the iPad on the apple tv is amazing. It's such a high res picture, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If your thinking about buying this, DO IT!!!!!!!

  • Great device, however.....

This is a great device but it is limited to iTunes downloads. It would be perfect if it could be used for all IPad apps.

  • Disappointed

I purchased the Apple TV for my iPad 2. I was disappoinnted to find out after all the updates that it froze everytime I tried playing RealRacingHD2. It did the same thing on other games I tried to play. It is a good product for the other uses such as iTunes and Nexfilix, but for the iPad2 it stinks.

  • Easy, fast and amazing

Apple consistently continues to surprise and impress me. It was very easy to set up and to get video, music and photos streaming. Renting and purchasing is a simple & clean process as well. The only downside I have so far is that you can no longer use your album covers as a screensaver. Minor in comparison.

Pros: -Access to iTunes store -Access to Netflix streaming -Use your iPhone as a remote control -Access your entire iTunes library wirelessly Cons: -No browser support for Safari -Netflix app doesn't have a bookmark feature. So, if you are watching an entire season of a tv show, it doesn't mark which shows have been viewed / not viewed

  • Excellent Addition to My Apple Family

Great device, while it is nice to say you can download and look at pictures/movies/tv shows on an iPod Touch or an iPad, with the push of a button, I can watch it on my TV. That to me is well worth the money. You can also play your music library through your entertainment system (assuming your TV is connected to it, if not, it is through the TV speakers) or use any of the music channels on there. I have not used any of the built in applications (aside from YouTube) yet but based on the YouTube experience and the streaming from my PC's in my house I would imagine that would be quality as well. I have not had any issues with this device yet; I have owed it for 2 months and have gone through the IOS upgrade with it. The USB port in the back is NOT used for additional storage as an FYI.

  • Small but Packed with a lot of stuff

I like the Apple TV. It is small but has a lot to offer including Netflix and youtube and it steams everything from iTunes to my TV. The only draw back is that I can not mirror my iPad 1 or iPhone 4 to the Apple TV. This requires an iPad 2 or a iPhone 4s which was not clearly stated in the advertisements.

  • Pays for itself in a month

I decided to go with Apple TV, Netflix and Hulu rather than pay over a hundred bucks a month for Cable. So far, I have missed out on very little that I'm interested in. The very first month my bill from cable company was only for phone/internet and I'd saved that much money. The device works easily, one of the unexpected benefits was the ability to stream photos while listening to music, or during a paused movie. Many of us have thousands of photos which never are seen, particularly in a group environment, it's great to discuss these experiences again and relive them. The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is that Apple TV does not have many of the apps that most new DVD/Blu-Ray players have, such as Hulu. They do have Netflix, and the major sports channels, but that's it. I recommend this for people who want to reorganize their life and their budget, particularly those who have made a large investment in digital videos.

  • Excellent Product, But Not a Must Have

Apple TV is a good product which works exactly as advertised. The interface is excellent and very easy to use. It is a worthy Apple product. I bought it to be able to mirror my IPAD2 to the TV. It works well in this regard, but I find that viewing my IPAD on its own screen is far superior to seeing it on the TV screen. It also has NETFLIX access which is a definite plus. Also access to many free music stations. Otherwise duplicates much of what is available on many DVD players, TV's and ROKU.

  • Love the Apple TV

I think this is a great product, and will be the future for all types of media. Everyone should get rid of their Blu-rays and DVDs and go Digital copy.

  • Name is misleading but awesome product!

I could never figure out what an "Apple TV" was. I'd hear about it from time to time and assumed it was an actual TV made by Apple so why would I need it. NOPE - it's a great little device that hooks up to your TV or stereo and you can run your music, videos, pictures, iPad screens as well as access your internet accounts like YouTube, iTunes, Netflix, etc. Very easy to set up and AMAZING. Now I watch my Netflix movies on my big screen, play my iPad games and display my photos on there as well and can't believe I didn't buy one long before this. Great value!

Straight up awesome, especially after the new upgrade! I can use my iPad 2 to stream DirecTv's NFL Sunday ticket on to my television now with the new mirroring feature. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • Great way to make your TV a smart TV

The apple TV is a great way to turn a regular LCD or LED into a smart TV. It allows you to stream videos, music, pictures, and more from your other I devices. With a price around $100, you can't beat it. Similar setups, like google TV or going from regular to smart tv is about 4 times more. Do be aware however, because of the low price it does not include a HDMI cable, but the price of those has dropped significantly. I got one around $20.00. Works best with the iPhone remote app!

    Review by ().

  • The best $99 an Apple product owner could spend

I have no idea how I didn't own one of these sooner! Having an extensive collection of music and movies on my iTunes account, this is an awesome addition to my Apple product lineup. Not only does it link all the Apple content but it also streams my Netflix. The days of relying on my DVR and OnDemand rentals are over, now everything goes through my iTunes account.

    Review by ().

  • Another cool Apple accessory

I originally purchased this b/c of the mirroring capabilities this had when paired with an iPad 2 or iPhone 4s. This accessory did not disappoint. If I'm playing a game, I can show it on the big screen. It will stream other apps (like NBC, ABC) to watch shows that you might have missed or want to see again. Beats watching shows on the. laptop. What I really like is the home sharing. Now I can access all my music or movies from my couch. Another cool feature is there's a free app to make your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad a remote to control Apple T.V. If you have the iPhone 4 (with the iOS 5 update) it will only wirelessly send your videos (also T.V. shows) or music to your television. It will NOT mirror your iPhone 4 or older models. I can't speak for the iPod touches b/c I don't own one but I assume with the latest update it should wirelessly do the same as the iPhone 4.

  • Works well and simple to setup.

Overall this product works seamlessly with other Apple products. Air play is a cool feature. The ability to rent and purchase videos is slick. For some reason the YouTube search results on Apple TV are different when compared to the same keywords entered on my computer and the YouTube website?

  • Amazing little box!

This little black box is amazing! I have an iPad 2, and to watch TV shows or movies from iTunes, I was having to load them on the iPad, then hook the iPad to the TV to watch. Now, my entire iTunes library, including music, movies, TV shows, etc. all effortlessly stream from my PC through my Apple TV! Plus you can browse movies and TV shows on iTunes right on your TV. Setup was relatively easy. The only hiccup I had was my network has MAC address filtering. I was unable to obtain the MAC address of the Apple TV unit when first getting it on my network. So I had to go into my wireless router settings and disable MAC filtering. The Apple TV then connected right away. Once connected, I was able to go into the network settings of the Apple TV and obtain the MAC address, then plug that into my wireless router settings and all was good. Using air play with my iPhone & iPad is awesome. Viewing photos and videos right on the TV over the wireless network is so cool! Photos display quickly, but I did find that movies in my photo library seemed to take quite a long time to buffer before they would display on the TV. I think this to be a bit odd because you can stream YouTube from the iPad to the Apple TV quite quickly. I guess movie files on the iPad or iPhone are much larger in size which takes longer? Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product. $100 is a great price to pay for what this product lets me now do. And with iOS5 right around the corner, airplay will only get better!

  • excellent product. reliable and great support

Very happy with the product. i have already purchased it as a gift for other loved ones. It especially works well when subcribing to Netflix for movie watching. From what i hear, it is only a matter of time before the software upgrade will allow you to view a mirror image of your computer desktop on your television which in my opinion was the only thing on my wish list. Leave it to Apple to know what i want before i want it. You can NEVER go wrong with an apple product.

  • It has promise.

I love the way I can use Apple TV to show my photos, listen to iTunes, and browse Youtube. I'm a bit disappointed that I can't use AirPort to watch HBOGO. I heard there is some discussion about making that available. This would make it much more versatile! It's a good product that could be better if there is more cooperation in the industry. Good for the amount of money invested.

I bought this because trying to streamline my movies from my new blue ray player was a nightmare with no help from Samsung or comcast. I went to Best Buy and said I needed help streaming to my Mac, they recommended Apple TV. It worked as soon as I hooked it up for about a week and then streaming stopped ever 2-3 minutes. My network was adjusted and now it's working great again, plus I can have a slideshow on big screen TV instead of everyone gathering around computer.

  • It just works

I'm very happy with the Apple TV. It is intuitive and relatively painless to use. The only down side would be that another computer in the house has to be on and running iTunes. I have a separate networked attached storage (NAS) that contains all of our data, but there still needs to be a computer on and running iTunes. If it weren't for that, I'd say this is a perfect device!

  • THE GOOD, BAD, & UGLY.

THE GOOD: Very small & compact and does not take up much space. Has the ability to share photos, video, & music wirelessly is great from your iPhone or computer. Has the ability to use the iPhone as a remote which enables you to use the keyboard function from your phone rather than having to use the default remote that comes with the Apple TV and select each letter one by one when searching. THE BAD: Requires an HDMI cable that does not come with the Apple TV. Would like to see more entertainment selections such as HULU + and Vudu. THE UGLY: none OVERALL: Another good product from Apple!!!

  • Compact and Easy to Use

Good value, easily transferable between TVs and user friendly.

  • Works Well...but questionable value.

It set up well and is pretty straight-forward to use. For a hundred bucks, you get access to lots of stuff but the good stuff you have to pay for. So it is a convenience factor, saving a trip to the video store, super market red box etc. I'm surprised they don't sell this for half the price given that they would be keeping you in the APPLE network for your movie watching vs. the cable or DirecTV. It offers connection to NETFLIX but you may already have other ways to get access to them. Their new policy gives you streaming only for the older movies for 7.99 per month. For latest films, you need to buy another pkg. But anyway, that is not APPLE TV. Now I am reviewing Netflix. You can watch YouTUBE and it has RADIO features which may be convenient for some people but I have not found that useful. For me, it has been mostly about movies. One thing I do not like so much is the remote. They opted for very small and few buttons. It has a center button with up-down-left-right around it and it is sometimes hard to just hit the circumference buttons if you have big fingers. So that needs to be improved along with offering more function for simpler operation of the menus. It is also pretty small so if you have a stuffy chair or couch, you will lose it in the cushions.

  • APPLE GOODNESS

EVERYTHING I EXPECTED AND MORE, FLUENT OPERATION, HAS WHAT I NEED YOUTUBE, VIMEO, ITUNES, RADIO, PODCASTS, NBA, MLB TV, OH AND OF COURSE NETFLIX...AND MORE! TINY IN SIZE, WILL FIT ANYWHERE, SYNCS WITH YOUR ITUNES, IPHOTO, ETC... VERY WELL EXECUTED - THERE IS ONE QUIRKY THING OCCASIONALLY IT WILL NOT TURN OFF - OR IS IT ME ? I HAVE TO DO MORE INVESTIGATING...I WILL UPDATE IF BECOMES A PROBLEM... OTHERWISE I GIVE THIS DEVICE A FIVE STAR : YOU CAN UPDATE OVER THE NET, IT IS NOT AUTOMATIC - NOT SURE IF THIS WOULD BOTHER YOU OR NOT - ME I LIKE TO BE ABLE TO BE ON TOP OF WHAT I NEED MYSELF... ENJOY I HAVE AND CONTINUE TO.

I used to watch Netflix on my Xbox 360, which worked fine, but the sound of the fans was very distracting and the time it took for the machine to start up and to navigate to the Netflix app were a little annoying, the Apple TV starts up almost instantly and I can be looking at Netflix in under a minute. • Works great but doesn't do much....YET!

Don't expect much from this device. What it does, it does great, but this is not an internet experience. If your looking for that go Google TV. The iPad remote/airplay feature is terrific and this is where this device is going to blow up. There are only a few AirPlay apps that work on the iPad but more are rolling out regularly. Do your research so your not disappointed but for $99 you can't really go wrong.

The Apple TV makes it very easy to send via wifi your music and music videos from my MacBook to my stereo and HDTV. I can set up special playlists for parties and select them via the Apple TV. As a former dj, this lets me automate the music entertainment so that I can spend more time with my guests. It also lets me rent movies like on-demand dvr or blue ray player.

  • Apple Dropped The Ball

It usually goes without question that apple makes great products, but with apple tv, they did the complete opposite. My biggest complaint I suppose is with the platform it runs on and not the device itself. I bought it to watch netflix videos, it rarely ever plays them. Sometimes the netflix tab is non existant. I have owned a roku for over a year before buying an apple tv, and the roku is by far a better product. Yes the apple tv has many features such as youtube (it's only redeeming quality) The abilty to set up with itunes and share content between itune compatible devices also new release movie rentals. Even with those 3 added features over the roku I would still recommend the second mentioned. Unless apple decides to fix the very apparent problem (look on any forum) and comes out with an update to remedy it, I would not recommend this product to any one. If they do fix it, to where it works with zero to little problems, it may be a contender in the online streaming to your tv world.

One of the best features is how you can start watching something in one room on the mac, then move to the TV and pick up where you left off. Definitely 5 stars.

  • Simple to connect!

The Apple TV was a breeze to connect to my Mac! A few clicks and it was set up in no time. Having the ability to play music, videos, movies - all from the large TV screen is great - and listening to the sounds on the TV sound system creates that true movie experience! I don't know if I will buy many more movies in a case when I can just purchase and download them to my Mac and watch them anytime I want by using Apple TV.

  • Very good product with some glaring shortcomings

Overall, Apple TV is a great product for anyone who keeps a lot of digital media on his or her computer. I bought it to replace my Air Port Express, which I used to use to stream music. The interface is very smooth, and it is fairly easy to get used to. Overall, for the same price, if you are considering airport express and Apple TV, spend the money on the Apple TV. Biggest complaint - no volume control for streaming audio and video. Whereas I used to be able to control the volume when streaming from my computer to Air Port express (and I still think I can), you can't do it when you are using Apple TV to stream. Another complaint - I know apple wants me to buy their music, videos, etc, but it MUST get better integration with Pandora, HBO to Go, etc. Netflix is simply not good enough. I know they probably never will get there for competitive reasons, but it only makes sense. In fact, although I can stream HBO to GO from my iPad / iPhone using AirPlay, it only streams audio. Let me stream ANY video please and I'll be happy. Still, with those problems, it is a great way to get music, photos, home videos, netflix, etc... from computer to tv.

  • Could be better.

It is very cool however I have the 1st Ipad and it does not allow mirroring. I am told that Ipad 2 does allow this. Once I make the plunge this will probably get much better as there are not many apps allowing airplay. If HBOgo and MAXgo worked with airplay I would have been much more pleased with the purchase. MLB.com works great and is what I most utilize it for...

  • Apple it just works

Very simple to setup. Works exactly as it should/expected. Streaming movies off my Imac is just like Netflix only better. And it does both. I have two of these and they both work great. Wish I had 2 more! Note: This unit has an HDMI only interface to the TV. Since I had a Blu Ray on the TV's only input for HDMI I ended up with a Samsung 32 inch with several HDMI inputs too. But that is another review!

  • Great but it's apple it's expected

We are an Apple family. So we have two of these. One in our family room and my son has the other. It's so easy to hook up. And comes with everything u need except the HD cable but you can pick the up from buy.com 3 for 8 bucks. The unit is so small compared to other units and since we have everything hidden in a closet size doesn't matter. The remote is great perfect aluminum and only a few buttons so even better The things u can do with it are great too Netflix, you tube, rent movies, buy movies and connect right to ur computer. Love that u can control it from ur iPhone or ur iPad. And that it is all over wifi.

  • Strictly a media extender

I was hoping for a bit more out of this device, and overall, I am a bit disappointed. Perhaps a future software update will render it more useful. The problem is that it has virtually NO stand alone function that I can't do with something else except connecting my iTunes media to my TV and stereo. Event then, you have to have iTunes running on any system that you want to stream from. AirPlay is a nice feature, and I like being able to move my music from the computer speakers to the stereo, but I'm not convinced that it was worth the price to do so. You can use the iTunes online movie and TV content without connecting a PC or Mac, but the prices are too high compared to Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and everything else that does it better. If there were an iTunes subscription for unlimited content, then that might change the case. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't buy an AppleTV.

  • Great Product...Lacking in Features

I've had this a few weeks now, and it's a decent product. I use the HDMI cable through my receiver and all in all, it has a good picture and sound quality. Airplay is a nifty little feature. Before I would tie my laptop into my TV and receiver to play a movie I had downloaded. Now all I have to do is turn on Apple TV and then hit the Airplay button on my iPhone. Or, Apple TV ties in nicely to my home computer where all of my movies and music is kept. The only issue with connecting to the home computer is if iTunes is not open on the home computer (my home computer is always on), Apple TV will not be able to stream music or movies. Apple being true to form though just will not put things on there that people use the most! Stuff that is free, like HULU. They give you Netflix, but Netflix just does not have the quality that HULU and some of the others have. Because Apple limits what you can and can't use, that is why I give it 4 stars. The Apple TV product works great. I have not had the issues some people have with streaming Netflix.

  • Power-Packed Puck

The Apple TV is tiny, not much larger than a puck, but it is really power-packed. Now that Apple has introduced they sync of online purchases for things like TV shows, the value has gone even higher in my estimation. I bought a Samsung plasma and the picture quality, stream, and access to rentals via iTunes and Netflix are exceptional. If you're looking for a great way to "smarten up" an older TV, or if you simply enjoy the functionality of throwing images, streams, or videos and music from your iPhone or iPad to your home entertainment system, the Apple TV is for you. We now own three of them!

As with most new Apple products, there are minimal written instructions included in the Apple PC unit. As it turns out, they are not necessary. Once the unit is plugged in and connected to the receiver, step-by-step instructions were extremely easy to follow. The unit's receiver for wi-fi appeared to be highly efficient and sensitive.

  • Outstanding Media Hub When Paired with iPhone/iPad

The Apple TV by itself is a great way to rent and watch movies or TV shows via iTunes, watch Netflix streaming content, watch YouTube or Vimeo videos and listen to Internet radio. But when paired with the iPhone or iPad, it's outstanding. Now I can BUY movies through iTunes, put them on my iPad, start watching them on my HDTV, then pause and resume watching them on my iPad or iPhone in some other part of the room. (The advantage of buying movies, of course, is that I have more than 30 days/24 hours to watch them, and can watch them as many times as I want.) The free Remote app on the iPhone & iPad make using the Apple TV a breeze. What I love is that I can be watching one of my iPad movies on my HDTV via Apple TV, and then switch to the IMDb app on my iPad to look something up, without disrupting the video. I also especially love the portability of the Apple TV -- the box is so tiny, all I have to do is unplug the HDMI cable from my living room TV, unplug the power cord, move the box to my bedroom TV, plug in the HDMI cable and I'm set. All that for $99 makes it an amazing deal. The only thing I wish it had was a Web browser like mobile Safari. (Is it possible that there will eventually be apps for the Apple TV like there are for the iPad / iPhone?)

  • Wireless iTunes Library and so much more...

If your media is already in iTunes then you will have no problem using the Apple TV. For all of the other functions you will need a high-speed internet connection. Even a relatively fast DSL line (3mb Up / 1 mb Down) will not be enough to keep you from waiting for a HD video to load before playing. The Apple TV defaults Youtube to HD as well as many podcasts. If your favorite podcast is offered in a (Large) or even (Small) format and you don't have a high speed connection, I would suggest selecting that version instead of HD, unless you like sitting and waiting. After upgrading to a high-speed cable connection the Apple TV has been even more enjoyable. Sharing on iTunes was a piece of cake and being able to push content from my iPhone or iPad has also been easy. Download the 'Remote' app to control the Apple TV from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad so you can use the keyboard to search items and control the Apple TV. Vimeo was a welcome addition.

  • Who needs a cable box?

This $99 little box works great for what it's intended for. Picture and sound quality are good. My DirecTV DVR pulls 45 watts of power 24/7. The Apple TV only uses 2 watts, and that's when playing 720P content! We have bought one for each room now.

  • excellent addition for an iPad

The apple tv, iPad 2 and air play capabilities of TV/iPad has replaced an older windows media center pc for streaming content plus it's more convenient and energy efficient. I have a couple of these in the house and they work great. I can watch any of the content of my iTunes library on a HD TV. I also use it for Netflix and MLB.com both work well, you do need a good internet connection. I have them connected to the wired network in the house, so I don't know how well the wireless works. • Great for entertaining!

I have had the AppleTV for a couple months now and love it! Here's why: Netflix: I have three other devices that can also stream Netflix (Xbox 360, Wii, Samsung Blu-Ray) and AppleTV puts them all to shame. The user interface is intuitive and very visually appealing. It's very easy to search for new shows, seen things you watched before, and resume programs you had watched before. Having Netflix in HD on my 50" plasma is awesome! iTunes and photos: This is great for entertaining. Yes, you do have to have your PC running for Apple to stream your iTunes. It does a great job, and you can even have it make Genius playlists for you. My favorite is to put on some iTunes, then wait for the screensaver which I have set to my pics. The multiple modes of slideshow are nice to play with. Radio: One downside is that AppleTV does not do Pandora directly. There are some internet radio stations that it can do, but I find this way more painful to use than Pandora or Spotify. If you have an iPhone or iTouch you can use Airplay to send Pandora to your AppleTV. Overall, I love this product. As one of the cheapest Apple products there is (less than $100!) I think I definitely get my money's worth.

  • Great Product

Easy to set up, like most Apple products. Not much bigger than a hockey puck so not another big box, and very portable. If your wireless or internet connection is good, you will get great HD quality. I mainly got for MLB.tv which is now fantastic to stream on the TV instead of a computer or having to hook up extra cables. It is also nice to rent movies off ITunes. It is great also to show pictures from Flickr and Mobileme, and stream music from the computer to your entertainment center. The quality is great and in many cases it is cheaper than using Charter in-Demand. Overall the price means that it is cheap to add and great to use.

  • I Finally Have It!!

I was waiting a while to get this, and now that I have it, I'm very happy. Great product, only a glitch or two. The biggest problem I've had with it is that sometimes, if I pause a movie to go to the bathroom or get a snack, when I come back, the Apple TV no longer recognizes my Mac. I can eventually get it working again, but I have not figured out yet WHAT IT IS that gets it working. It's taken upwards of 5-10 minutes of constant trial and error to get it to recognize the computer. Other than that, I have 0 complaints. I still recommend it, since this only seems like a software glitch that can eventually be patched by Apple.

    Review by ().

  • Great for the price

For 99 bucks, it's been pretty cool to have access to my iTunes content on my TV. There's still some kinks to work out, but if anyone will do it, Apple surely will. I hope that iCloud will do away with the need for an active iTunes library or iMovie/ iPhoto library. I really enjoy having rentals available anytime. The quality for rentals is so much better than Netflix, it hurts a little to go back to Netflix after renting from the Apple Store. Also if I prefer to watch my Netflix content, I still can. I love having access to Flickr, YouTube and many other web videos. Overall, the plusses definitely outweigh the minuses. I am really pleased with this little black box.

  • Excellent

I have many apple products, and they all work flawlessly. I purchased this item because I was having an issue with the built in NETFLIX app on my TV. At times, when I ran the TV NETFLIX app, the TV would reboot. It was very frustrating. I then decided to get a dedicated device. I was trying to choose between the ROKU box & the apple TV. I would have gotten the ROKU box because of the many different connection options, many different built in app's, & the ROKU box is not tied to anyone company. But then I heard about ios 5 & the capability of mirroring from your ios device to the Apple TV. This will allow me to watch my iTouch or iPad on my TV. My ios device now allows me to send my videos to the Apple TV, but the option to stream everything, games, apps & many more, was the deciding factor for me getting the Apple TV. Get the ROKU box if you do not own any Apple products, iTouch, iPhone or iPad, but if you do own one, or many of these products, then this is an excellent addition. One more thing, this device looks great, it is very small, easy to hide, and works flawlessly, it has yet to stall or reboot on me. I have owned it for a few months now.

The installation couldn't have been easier. Logging in and actually using the device is super easy. It works great! I also have searched YouTube and watched videos on my TV with this device. At the $99 price point, this was cheaper than other alternatives (getting a router) and more convenient than running a hardwire ethernet cord from the other room. I love it!

  • Did not do what it I was told that it would do.

Very limited in its ability. It is nothing more than a way for Apple to force us to buy their service over someone else. I think as consumers our choice should be based on the quality of the service and its value compared to like services and not the limitation of their equipment.

I am able to stream movies thru Netflix and play my Itunes library (using my Iphone or Pad as a remote too). I can't wait for the new OS5 to come out which will allow me to Mirror what I am doing on my phone or pad on the TV. The only thing I would complain about is that the updates sometimes take forever to download and sometimes when I tell it to sleep (turn off) it will come back on. Other then that not bad for the price.

  • Limited, great value, alternative to commercial TV

It doesn't do alot, but what it does, it does very well. Brilliantly intuitive interface. Allows for iTunes library, podcasts, Internet radio, and home network content to be streamed into living room or theater. Nothing more, nothing less. Streaming only. No storage, no DVR. I highly recommend it for customers with these limited expectations. The wireless streaming works well if the client's wireless router is within 15 or 20 feet. Most of the time, I find I need to run an Ethernet wire from the office to the AppleTV location for a hardwired connection.

Imwould like it e.even more if it had pandora built in, but with air tunes I can stream it from my iPad, anyway. You tube looks good on this, too. After setting up home sharing on the Apple TV I was very pleased with the results. My music collection has never sounded better! Streaming from Netflix via Wi Fi also works perfect. No problems. Apple has another winner with the 2nd Generation Apple TV.

  • Excellent piece of equiptment

I have an iPad, iPhone, and full theater surround theater system with logitech harmony remote to operate it all. The installation was EASY! I was able to connect everything and it all works seamlessly. If you are an apple or tech junkie like me, this is a must. The video streams from iPad and iPod devices with good quality on my 65" HDTV. Netflix runs at a higher quality than the streamed iTunes videos. The digital copy movies that have been imported to my devices streams beautifully too. It seems that is awfully close to the blu-ray quality I get from my PS3. I HIGHLY recommend this piece of equiptment for you home theater system.

  • keeps dropping itunes

itunes will play for about 30-40 minutes then abruptly drop itunes music. It loses the connection. I even have it wired!! I highly recommend going to the Apple Support Community discussion boards and Search "Home Sharing drop out with Apple TV2". There are over 20,000 views and over 200 replies with frustrated customers like me. I will monitor this review because I believe Best Buy sometimes removes bad ratings to boost their sales.

  • Better value than it seems

I was torn on getting this since I have PS3 and an Xbox that can stream content, but what many reviews miss is that it can stream your itunes to your home theater. My Denon systems has ipod docking, but that dock is $99-$200. So for that same $99 you can basically dock all your music to your home theater wirelessly. Sold.

  • Great Product

This is a great product. I love apple! I have the phone, computer and now the little tv! If you don't have an iPhone, this remote that they give you will be very hard to get use to it! Since I do have the iPhone I'm able to control the screen much easier! I going to buy another for the living room, even though my blu ray have the YouTube and stuff, it's very hard to use it will a regular control and not only that, it's WAY too slow. GREAT JOB APPLE for developing a great product!

  • Great Purchase! Would Recommend to Anyone

I love this product. My wife and I purchased this product months ago and have loved it ever since. We dont watch that much TV anymore since we use Netflix. We have this setup in the master bedroom and we watch movies on it all the time. We even rent movies from iTunes. I also love the feature with the iPhone 4 that allows you to play videos and pictures on the Apple TV wirelessly. This is nice for anyone with small spaces and would really like to try something new. It is very easy to setup wired and wireless connections. We plan on getting an additional one once we get everything done with our new house. Apple did well on this and i am glad Best Buy is now selling Apple products.

The small size is so convenient that I can move from room to room without too much of a hassle. I love the Netflix and the MLB-TV. No more watching baseball on my computer screen. Maybe 1080P will be available when version 3 comes out, but right now I am very satisfied. I will purchase another one soon.

  • GREAT!!!

In all honesty I must say I hate apple products. I'm a windows fan. The only reason I bought this is because it was cheaper than the Boxee. Once I got this i loved it. It is great for the price. The biggest flaw I think is that it doesnt come with a hook-up cord to your T.V.!!! I love the fact that it has home sharing and I can listen to my music from my itunes on my TV!!! In fact I'm listening to it right now and it is amazing. I love the internet connection because it is very fast. The size is great. I like that it has many apps such as youtube, netflix, mobileme, and flickr. I would highly recommend this.

Bought the Apple TV to be able to play music and videos from my iPad, but love the Netflix features. Very graphically helpful, and the video quality is very good. • Best Media Player in this price range

Apple TV is simiply amazing. When Using fast forward for Netflix on this device is like using a DVD. The quality of picture and sound is clear compared to, WD Live TV Plus and their Live Hub , Sony and Seagate media players. I have not used Boxee so I can't do a comparison with that company. Apple is limited on the type of files it can handle compared to the listed devices. My video's and audio files all play well and some are in windows format. I'm usually not big on Apple but they definantely did an excellent job with this device and it's user interface. This device is extremely small but has a powerful punch.

  • Cnet and I agree Roku is the way to go

Cnet did a shootout between all the streaming players including apple tv and roku beat them all. I agree with them. I took my Apple tv back the day i got it. No hulu plus, 720p not 1080p lacks channels. User interface isn't bad. Apple wants you to pay per episode as opposed to getting hulu plus. At a 1.00 per episode that adds up quick. As an apple fan this product is very disappointing. I replaced it with a roku player and am much happier.

  • Awesome

So much better than anything out there and cheaper. I can walk into my house listening to pandora and send the audio straight to my Apple TV and hear everything through my home theater. Plus if my kids are watching Toy Story in the Living Room i can just send the movie to the bedroom with no interuptions. It is by far one of my favorite Apple products. I just wish they would add an actual Pandora App like they did with the MLB.com and NBA.

I think this is a wonder video streamer, easy to setup and I have had two updated already. I love the size and if I want to take it with me it's very easy to transport. I could go on and on about the Apple Tv video streamer but I think the quality, ease of set up and use plus the features makes it a winner in my book. I bought the Roku first ( see my review when the system posts it, Written 3-24-11 ) it was a poorly planned setup (credit card required before use) I took it back for a refund.

I preorded my Apple TV as soon as it was released and soon after purchased another. Not only has this product kept me from paying for $90 a month for cable TV, but works amazingly with my iPhone 4 (and my roomate's two iPhone 3GS) and soon to be our two iPad 2's. In my video, I covered the features of the product and showed the unboxing. There are more details there. In general, the only thing I dislike about the Apple TV is its lack of support for Hulu Plus. However, the ability to rent and stream movies instantly has been helpful time and time again.

  • So much punch in a little package

Basic is beautiful in this case with the apple tv. First at a design stand point it's really well made and doesn't fell cheap, has all the connections that you need for your modern HDTV set up and its priced at only $100 and its a apple product.... There's not much to be said but that its a streaming only device with no storage on bored. You buy movies and shows form apples online service and it streams thru the device. You also have Netflix, YouTube and pandora just to name a few with the newly added sport offerings. I mostly just this to see Netflix movies and shows and recently been using it a lot to do air play with my new iPad 2 which means your streaming your things from the iPad thru the apple tv and viewing it thru your tv

It took a while for it to arrive, but now that I have it, I love it!! While watching movies and videos, and listening to music and internet radio, I cannot believe that it was for only $99. I just signed up with Netflix, and I love that Apple TV can stream movies. Now I can watch all I want, as often as I want, although personally I think they should have a broader selection and I did have some problems watching a movie because it kept stopping. Other than that, it's the best money I've ever spent.

  • Absolutely Fantastic Product

This is my first purchase of an Apple product and I'm thrilled. I was thinking of buying a new DVD player with WI-FI built in so I could access Netflix and other things. I originally thought that you had to have Apple hardware to use Apple TV. Did research and found that was not the case. I decided to buy the box for $100 and try it. I opened the box and about 5 min. later I was up and running. As long as you have high-speed internet and a wireless router (or if wired.... an ethernet cable). Your good to go. I connected an HDMI cable from the box to my flatscreen TV, plugged it in. Entered my router info. and I was up and running. Logged into my Netflix account and voila! I then set up sharing on my itunes music collection (no I don't have an IPOD..... Yet). I have a 45K song collection which I converted to Itunes since it's very easy to manage. Now I can stream music from my PC (yes a windows 7 PC) to my TV. It's really nice and shows the Album artwork on the screen. Great product for a great price. Box is only 3.75" square and not quite an inch high.

  • Excellent once unlocked to full potential

This has to be the best media center available, period. However, out of the box it needs some tweaking. A very simple "jailbreak" procedure is required to unlock this devices FULL potential. Once jailbroken, XBMC can be installed which is an open source media center software that will play back ANY media format. All those SUPER HIGH QUALITY bluray MKV files that are out there can be played flawlessly in full high definition once XBMC is installed. Otherwise, you are limited to the MP4 file format restrictions of iTunes. The hardware is fully capable of playing anything you throw at it, it just needs to have a minor software addition to unlock this truly amazing device. Form factor is perfect. Super small, energy efficient, silent. Best $100 i've spent in a LONG time.

  • I'm Loving It

The apple tv does have some shortcomings, ie 720p, rentals are slightly slower than pc using wifi, requires itunes open on pc. I bit the bullet and got it just because i have a lot of tv shows and i couldn't find a better program to organize them and stream to the tv. I love the organization i have now, getting from turning the tv on to streaming movies/tv shows is way way faster than things like wmp extender on xbox. the remote on iphone was kinda neat for the first week. Might not be for you if all you do is watch netflix and you have an xbox/ps3/roku already

  • Not as expected

If you plan on streaming video from your camera roll, This is NOT the product for you. It will let you stream pics via air play, but no camera roll videos are supported. Apple never ceases to amaze me with their rediculous restrictions. The only way to accomplish this is to jailbreak your iOS device and use a Cydia app.

  • Good for playback from your computer

I was happey with the product until the time I tried to download a rental and well that is when the love affair ended. I can download it faster to my computer and than play it. Good but hardly great. This of course is not entirely the fault of the product. Remember if you have to download a 2 gigabite file, it will take time even on a fast network. instant gratification just isn't possible. But streaming my current content and it is voluminous has largely gone without a hitch.

  • All things should work this well

I primarily got this so I could stream Netflix to my HDTV. After researching this device and the Roku, I went with the Apple TV. Here's why I am in love with Apple TV: 1. Installation. It literally took me less than 10 minutes to hook the thing up. Hook it to your TV, plug in the power cord and turn it on. It'll find all available wireless networks in range, letting you select yours. Key in your network password, and...well...that's pretty much it. 2. Netflix interface. I was afraid that I was going to have to deal with multiple programs to run on the TV: one for itunes, another for netflix. But no! It's all together in a clean, easy-to-use interface that merges netflix, itunes, youtube and available radio stations all into one simple set of screens. And scanning through netflix is a breeze. 3. Speed. I tried my first full-length movie to see response time. It took about 20 seconds or so after hitting "Play" before the movie started. I think there was maybe 2 spots during the movie when more of it had to be downloaded, and these delays were maybe 10 seconds tops. Except for these two very minor burps, I couldn't tell if I was streaming it live, watching it on DVD, or watching it on a cable station! 4. You DON'T need a mac to set it up. I thought that maybe I needed to own a Mac desktop or laptop to set it up, but I was wrong. All of the set-up happens via your TV and the included remote. 5. For plasma TV owners, there are built-in screen savers to use if you are using your Apple TV for, say, listening to music. Nice touch. 6. Speaking of music, there are like a gazillion fantastic radio stations you can listen to. There are a couple of things to be aware of, though: 1. The remote, though beautiful and easy to use, is way to easy to misplace. 2. My network is "n", not "g", so I have some advantage of a speedier network. 3. I also have cable, not DSL, which could also give me an advantage. 4. You'll need an HTML cable (not included) and an available HTML port on your TV to take full advantage of the unit. If you have a fast network and a decent ISP, you will love the easy set-up, ease of use, and great speed and performance of your Apple TV. Highly recommended!!!

  • Disappointing for Apple Product

We were really excited to try the latest and greatest thing from Apple...thought that Apple TV would be a great replacement for Netflix etc. While it does allow you to sync music, photos, etc. from your iPod and pc desktop, it is horrible in regards to renting any movies from the iTunes store. Even after upgrading our DSL to 6.0 mbs, it took 13 hours to download a movie...furthermore, upon going to play the movie after the download, it said that another 14 hours until it was ready to play! What?! This could potentially be a cool item, but pretty much a waste of 99 bucks if you can't even use the movie feature. Returning it.

  • Very Apple, Very Cool

After researching several units (Roku, Google TV etc,) I settled on the Apple TV unit. No doubt Roku, the odds on favorite of everyone, has more content. However, I seriously doubt I will spend the money to access their tremendous content. In fact, I don't want to be in front of a TV enough to justify accessing that much paid content. Apple TV was the easiest thing to set up I've bought in a long time. The really neat part was the ability to stream my ipod content over the tv (read surround sound system). This was an automatic process, I put in my account info and it grabbed in in a few seconds. The radio content is really surprisingly good. More stations than I'll ever listen to but some unusual choices also that I found really appealing. I use Netflix and it streams effortlessly. Easy to use and no glitches or artifacts. I love the unit and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Shame on you Apple

I am a long time Apple fan and user, I own iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, iMacs and did and still own the old Apple TV. Upgraded because I wanted to have the streaming from iPhone and iPad feature which inexplicably will not be available as a software upgrade to the old Apple TV. The streaming from my iMac on a 5GHz 802.11n wireless network is painful at best. An HD home movie about 2.2 GB in size takes 10 minutes of spooling before it starts. iTunes movies take FOREVER to download even in non-HD format. My old Apple TV could start a movie in minutes, this one says I have to wait 12 hrs. Can't have multiple movies stored for later viewing. Obviously this new Apple TV was meant for live streaming only on a very high speed internet connection. Don't bother if you have AT&T DSL, I will try with Comcast but so far it has been a very disappointing experience.

  • Simply put, it just works

Recently my 400cd Sony changer started acting up. I have been carrying my laptop into the family room to connect to the stereo to listen to music, which was getting pretty old. I started looking for ways to easily stream from iTunes on the laptop to the stereo in another room. Read tons of review on tons of products, was almost ready to buy the Logitech Squeezebox Duet but the price and the not so great review made me pause. I came across the Apple Airport Express and this seemed to fit the bill, but then I dug further and found Apple TV. Have to say, it was NOT complicated to set up. Hooked right up to the wireless with no fuss. Ten minutes after removing it from the box I was streaming iTunes from the laptop and surfing Netflix. It's just that simple. Picture quality is better on Netflix than on he Wii, and the music sounds so much better than through the headphone plug on the laptop. Viewing all of my photos on the TV screen was an added bonus. So today I found that I can use my learning remote and it all ties together without using the remote that comes with it. I bought this thinking I would probably return it. No way now. Sure, I wish I could play Pandora or Slacker on it but I knew that when I bought it (it does have a large list of internet radio stations). Overall, tt does everything I need and has the ability to be driven from an iTouch, iPad, or iPhone so you can stream content from those devices as well (including Pandora or Slacker). Your mileage may vary, but if you are looking for a simple way to stream your iTunes over your home network and view it all and operate it on your TV screen this is simple and cost effective. Problem solved.

  • Love my Apple TV

Some of the bad reviews, depend a lot about the following: 1. Connection/ ethernet vs wireless 2. other devices interfering 3. location of apple TV 4. the technology on this device has not been tapped yet, more to come. So I would have to say with my purchase, I love my apple TV, on my Tv the display is crisp and clear, you can stream Netflix, really no lag, now I was watching a movie and it did pause a couple of times, no big deal, it only lasted like 15 sec. and it doesn't happen all the time if not at all. no complaint here. Next you can view you tube video which is cool, I like that you can listen to music, it has a lot of radio channels on it, like a pandora feel. you can view your photos and content only if you link up to your PC thru itunes, their will be a different alternative I believe, the potential of this device has not been used to its full potential yet....be patient Apple geeks, there is something that will add better airplay for 3rd party apps, I believe that you will be able to use your ipad thru apple tv and play Angry birds/ access all your content thru that device, it will turn it in like a big remote, a hub of content.

  • Use only with Wireless

You expect more from Apple. This device ONLY works with secure wireless and NOT secure ethernet. At college that require a password to use their internet this device will NOT allow you to connect, as it is NOT programmed to ask for a password if Ethernet Cat5 cable is connected. Also has NO internal storage. So if you are renting from NetFlix, can only watch as streaming and if you have slow streaming FORGET IT!! With old model you could download to device and then watch after completed so you had a smooth movie experience. Let's hope the next Apple device fixes these problems.

  • Good, not Great

I bought the new ATV as an upgrade from my old one, which I loved. The main reason I wanted to upgrade was for Airplay - as the rest of the functionality appeared pretty similar to the original. After using the device for a few weeks, I'm not sure yet if I really "upgraded". Here's why: Airplay is a great concept, but is still a bit flawed in execution. The biggest negative is the signal cuts out occasionally while streaming - a common bug you'll find if you do a Google Search. I wanted Airplay so I could play and control Pandora from my iPhone through my ATV, and about 90% of the time it works great. But, hearing audio cut out for a few seconds ever couple of minutes gets frustrating. Beyond that, Airplay is pretty limited right now. Hopefully more functionality is coming, but as of now it's largely audio only except for YouTube (which is already on the device) and pictures - which is kinda nice. You CAN'T stream videos shot from your iPhone - a horrible oversight - and you can't stream video from websites. Beyond Airplay, I can't find many benefts over the old AppleTV. Unlike the original, you have to have iTunes running on a PC in your network in order to access your local content. Accessing files can take a few seconds to "update the list" - even on a high speed wired network. The local hard drive in the original had no lag. HDMI output only is far more limiting than the component video / analog audio options on the original. Netflix is nice, but every product has Netflix in it these days - and frankly their streaming options are still ridiculously limited (good for kids movies though). Overall, I still like the product a lot, but the ideal version would have been simply adding AirPlay capability to the original. The rest of the tradeoffs are a bit of a bummer.

  • Excellent...as long as you use iTunes.

First I should state that I use iTunes for handling my movies and music needs, I rip a movie or movie and place it in there...simple as that. I use the Apple TV two different ways, first, the regular way. As a way to stream my media from a Mac to the TV it does this job fantastic, I've never experienced any problems and in typical Apple fashion setup was simple. Not really much to review here, it either streams good or it doesn't. Secondly I use it in a way that I stumbled upon, I am a photographer and when I'm working I like to have a stream of photos I've taken displayed on a monitor or TV...I used to have a separate Mac and monitor setup for this then I thought why not use the Apple TV for it...dual use and dead simple. Bottom line it is an easy way to enjoy your iTunes library in other room(s) without needing a separate HTPC setup. In fact, the only negative thing that I can say about it is that the on-screen information entry screen is tedious...BUT...that said, the iOS remote application will allow you to input via a keyboard when you enter a search or account entry screen.

  • Not as good as it should be

I had been waiting for this release of AppleTv, with it's ability to stream from local Itunes libraries this was what I needed. Unfortunately it falls short here. I had spent quite a bit of time converting media for my Ipod Touch. When trying to play these on AppleTv I get mixed results. Some play flawlessly, others display a green screen with audio only. My conversion process was the same for all media yet for some reason AppleTv doesn't like some. I've read now that this is a problem that hopefully Apple can correct. Outside of it's lackluster performance on local media it does work well with Netflix and Apple's rental services. These options kept me from giving this a lower rating.

This is way better than any other Netflix streaming device. Plus, if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you could use it to navigate AND type! And if you have a Mac at home, you could wireless stream your iTunes and iPhoto library for viewing pleasure on your big screen and home theater system. Did I mention you could watch YouTube videos? And that all of this is included for ONLY $99? No complaints here... at least for now, anyways until they come out with the next version. • Enjoying Our Apple TV

We have always listened to music in our house through ITunes on our computer, however, we recently moved to a home with an office that is far away from the main living area. We attached the Apple TV to our living room TV so we can access all of our music in the main living area. It's also been great for showing off our family vacation pictures to friends and family right on our TV and watching movies and home video that are on our computer. We use it daily for Netflix also. Works great with our Mac.

  • Great Concept.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He wanted to be able to watch the movies and tv shows he had downloaded on our Mac. The set up was very easy and the unit is small enough to disconnect and move to another tv. When it is working it is awesome. The problem with the Apple TV is the fact that it looses connection often. We have used it on a tv upstairs and a tv downstairs and have experienced the same lost connection. We love using it but it can be frustrating at times. It would be perfect if not for the connection problems. I would let Apple work out the "bugs" before I would recommend.

  • Worth its cost

AppleTV is a fun addition to a television. It was easy to set up and I particularly like being able to use my iPhone as its remote. I find the Netflix interface easy to navigate - much better than the access I am able use through my Sony Blu-Ray player. The multitude of radio stations offered is a huge plus and connecting to all of the iTunes libraries in the house is a dream. Also, renting HD movies from iTunes is cheaper than the onDemand options my cable company provides. At only $100, this product is worth its cost.

  • doesn't work with Phillips TV's!

the Apple TV has a problem with display on Philips Flat TVs - you get a purple screen. they are working on it, but no fix has been announced. otherwise the product looks very easy to use and fun!

  • Great Experience

Setting up the Apple TV was a snap. I connected the HDMI and a network cable, and then turned it on and followed the prompts. I did not set up wireless, which would add some complication. It prompted me how to share photos from my computer. One prompt had me enable a setting in iTunes. By the time I returned to the living room, pictures were already displaying. We turned on Airplay and almost immediately had photos playing from an iPhone & iPad. Again, effortless setup. I'm most impressed with streaming of Netflix. We used it a month before we saw the first pause in streaming. Our only complaints would be the remote and lack of an Internet browser. The remote is a little difficult to type with (though the size and operation are quite agreeable). And we would like a device that is going to the internet for content to also allow browsing. Overall, we're quite pleased with the product and price. It was nice to have a new electronic toy that didn't take hours to get up and running!

  • Pretty cool!

I recently purchased the AppleTV to sync my iPhone and HDTV. The AppleTV has a lot of cool features like playing music from my phone to my home entertainment system wirelessly. It's also very easy to stream Netflix and YouTube. The only complaint I have is that it does not stream video from sites such as Hulu.

  • Nice streaming from Itunes

It streams well from my ITunes. It's unfortunate that it can't log on to my account without my computer being being turned on. It'd be really nice if I could access my store account to rent content directly from the Apple TV

  • Worth every penny!

Not much to say except I absolutely adore this little device! Mostly use it for AirPlay from iPad, iPhone, computer, etc. Works really well with Netflix and I especially love the fact I can browse Netflix content and am not restricted to my instant queue like with my DVD player. Was very easy to set up on my wireless network. Am using a five year old linksys b/g one and that was no issue. Only configuration problem came when I decided to configure Apple TV with static IP - my download times on iTunes and Netflix became ridiculously long so I went back to DHCP which kind of bothers me.

  • Awesome little gadget!

Bought this so I could stream netflix in my bedroom and it works great. It was easy to set up, i like the lay out of the netflix through apple tv and the price can't be beat when compared to similar devices. I would say buy one. It also is small and can fit anwhere on your tv stand or desk and it streams movies very fast. It also uses very little energy.

  • Product is slow to download movies from iTunes

The Apple TV is not good. Product is slow to download movies from iTunes. Also, cannot download more than one movie becuase not enough memory to store movie. Once download, you cannot start to download another movie becuase the one you just download will be lost and have to start over. It is slow to process movie. All this information is not identified in the booklet provided, you must experience on your own, read blogs on how AppleTV is not as advertised, or by calling an Apple tech that hasn't even used one tell you how to operate. Recommend no one buy the 2nd Gen until they fix a lot of things...this is the only Apple product I've used that sucks. I would just get a subscription with Netflix and download directly from them using your computer as the interface.

  • Wow

Here is a easy to install, user friendly and multi-media streaming device that blows anything else away especially Roku. Even Netflix streams quicker using Apple Tv. Want to display your photo content, videos, music etc to your HD tv? its just so easy using iTunes and the Apple Tv. It is also a small non-intrusive and attractive device. Its a must have.

This is much easier to use than the previous version. The streaming is very good. One drawback is no onboard storage.

  • This is the best thing ever!!

I purchased Apple TV to watch instant Netflix movies and TV shows. I am not a very tech-savvy person, so I assumed that I would have problems setting it up. SO not the case. It was as easy as plugging into 3 places, and following the user's guide and on-screen directions. This is probably one of the best things I ever bought! There are so many shows and movies to choose from, and I've been recommending this product to all of my friends and coworkers. Just be sure to purchase a HDMI cable, so it will work for you. Luckily the Best Buy rep mentioned it to me, so putting all of it together was a piece of cake!

  • One of the best things I bought

Bought this with some of the Christmas money I got and I have to say I'm really impressed. Netflix and Airplay have to be the best thing about this with all my pictures from the computer and all the (seemingly) free and endless entertainment from Netflix you can't go wrong. One of the best things I have for my TV!

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Apple TV is absolutely amazing for $99.00. It steams nextflix flawlessly, the selection of tv and movies via pay per view is impressive. NO ISSUES WITH LAGGING OR FREEZING. I would have to say that all the people that have complained about the freezing or lagging have a weak wireless network. In fact I'm on my way out to buy another unit for the television upstairs. I have one in the livingroom, a wii I stream with in the basement and soon another Apple TV upstairs. BUY IT!

  • Amazing...what I've been waiting for

First, I'll get the bad out of the way. No surround sound output, no full 1080 HD. That's about it, and I assume the next model will have both. Beyond that this thing is beautiful. I have a massive DVD library and a few years ago I bought a 400-disc changer, but it just didn't work right. I dreamed of the day when I could sit and scroll through my library with the ease of a remote. The Apple TV answered. I am in the process of transferring my dvd collection to iTunes, and while it is a little bit of a hassle, it's worth it. I dont have to worry about storing dvd's, little kids hands touching them and ruining them. The speed is amazing. Before, you would sit down, wait for the BD player to load, open the tray, put in the disc, wait for it to load again, and then after it finally did, you have to sit through trailers, that rarely want to be seen again. This ridiculously small device is fast, I turn it on, and within seconds I am watching the opening credits to anything in my library. Hooked up to my speaker system the music library sounds amazing, completely different quality then just hooking up an ipod. And speaking of the ipod, you can use your ipod as a remote. That means, I can be downstairs, and when the kids yell down for a movie I can flip it on, within seconds. I was amazed at the price. 99 dollars? BD players were 300 when they first came out. I recommend everyone stop buying discs and start buying digital, because this is where media is going. When internet speeds catch up and hard drives are cheap enough (pretty much now) this will be the way to go. Its barely bigger than an ipod, and plugs in with 3 cords. I love it. Apple, on the next model add 1080 and surround sound, and I will be first to buy one for every tv in my house.

  • Iffy at best.

I have one upstairs and one downstairs and they both are slow when it comes to streaming Netflix video. I have a good signal so it isn't related to the network and music plays just fine, which is my main use for this thing anyway. If you plan on getting this to stream video I would look elswhere. The remote is small and hard to use, especially if you have bigger mitts! I like the fact that I can use my iPhone or iPad to control it but overall not the best package out there. If you are an Apple fan then you will push past this review and that is fine but I would give this little fella 2.5 to 3 stars out of 5.

  • manual DNS 008.008.008.008

Hello, Those of you how are having trouble with constant annoying buffering while using Netflix with your apple tv2, try setting the network to manual with DNS changed 008.008.008.008. This made a huge difference in performance & we are really enjoying this product. It's a big plus to be able to control with ipad or ipod. Compared to other options out there, apple tv2 seems to be the best value for the money.

  • Ok, but returned for WDTV Live Hub

Thought I would check this device out even though I knew about the shortcomings. In the end, the stuff it was missing and the lack of content made me return it. Good interface, easy to navigate but that's where it ended for me. Netflix choice wasn't good. No local content, VERY limited video container support (No MKV). I understand why they limited the device to 720P since it's a pay for steam device only. But the lack the of 1080P in 2010/11 is still beyond stupid. I STRONGLY suggest you take a look at the WDTV Live Media Hub; equally as easy to install, more apps, more content, local content, local storate, plays literally everything, amazing UI, and 1TB hard drive. It is almost double the price at $179 In the end the WDTV does what I need plus more, the Apple left me wanting more and feeling like I paid for a device to pay for content.

  • Worth the $100 bucks

Awesome product! I went to the apple store to get an a/v dock for my new touch and walked out with this instead. I want to play myusic and videos through my stero & tv. So now I am streaming music & video from iTunes to my stereo & tv & have access to my entire library and not limited to the memory of my iPod. You can also access YouTube, Netflix, and apple tv shows and movies. Only took a few min to set up and configure.

  • Do Your Research

Lots of people are having all kinds of problems streaming video with this device. Do your research - search on "Apple TV slow video" or something to that effect. I can stream YouTube and Netflix on my Macbook in the same room as the Apple TV w/ no problem - and on the Apple TV they freeze and sputter every few minutes. Renting from iTunes is a disaster. 52 minutes to download an 42 minute TV show- this is supposed to be a streaming service, not a download service. I'm fairly technical and have followed Apple's suggestions for optimizing network settings with no effect. For those of you who have no problems - that's great. Consider yourself lucky. It seems to work OK for streaming video and music from your computer but not video from the internet.

  • One of the Best Apple Products

This is one of the best products that Apple as reworked completely to make it affordable and easy to use. I choose this over netflix since there is no monthly fee to use it and I do not watch movies as often. Its a small box and can hide pretty much anywhere by your tv. Excellent product and recommend to anyone!

  • Great for what it does

The apple tv is an inexpensive media extender and rental box for your TV. You can easily share your entire iTunes library (purchased music and movies), home movies (as long as you render them in a format compatible with the Apple TV - many video editors have a profile for it or for the iPad, which also works fine), and pictures with it for display on your TV. In addition, the unit is very small with an integrated power supply, so it is very portable or can be easily tucked away around a TV in a bedroom. You can also rent movies and TV shows as well as use it for watching Netflix, youtube, and a few other internet based services. The airplay feature is interesting, however it requires a pretty solid wireless connection to get it to stream reliably from an iPod touch or an iPad.

  • Don't listen to negative reviews

There were a few negative reviews which did not get many facts correct. First, the price of renting an HD movie is $3.99, and HD TV show is $.99. You have 30 days to begin watching the rental, and once you start watching, you have 24 hours to finish watching. One reviewer was upset because Netflix does not have many new release movies for instant streaming...how is that Apple TV's fault? Netflix has many TV shows and many great movies for instant streaming in HD. Another reviewer talks about the 1st gen apple tv with the hard drive built in, and how you can't buy and own on the new Apple TV. Well, you can buy the movie or season or TV show on your PC or Mac in Itunes and own it, and it will wirelessly stream from your computer to Apple TV in HD. Also, the airplay feature from the IPad is awesome. Airplay is the ability to be watching something on your IPad or IPhone and tap the airplay button, and the video will now be playing on your TV through the Apple TV streaming. This product is small enough to bring with you on the road as long as a WIFI connection is available. It is also small enough to go from room to room if you have extra HDMI cables. This product is fantastic , it was effortless with the hookup and the installation, within minutes I was on Netflix and streaming my movie collection from my computer to the device. I use Itunes gift cards as a pre pay credit card style with renting movies and shows in HD. Certain movies you will want to own obviously, but some you may not want to spend $30 bucks for the blu ray disc when you can rent it at $3.99.

  • Guys listen!! Don't get it.

You guys need to stop and listen to me and that other person. He's right, this device is terrible. I own lots of products from apple and this is so far the worst device I've ever own in my life. I've been having the first gen 160gb and it is totally worth it than this, you can actually buy and own instead of just only able to rent really expensive movies. I got this as a bd gift cause my dad knows I'm a big apple collector so I felt really sorry for him and gave it back so he can return it. So do yourself a favor and just save up $50 extra and get the 1st gen apple tv you won't be disappointed.

  • Wow, Apple got it again!

purchased GoogleTV for more but that was piece of junk. returned it and got this AppleTV. They had to find one for me but for 1/3 of the price, it does so much more and it took me less than 3 minutes to set up. (vs 4 hours with GoogleTV)

  • Why is this device so popular? It sucks!!!

I was so excited into getting this product so I finally hooked it up and I'm like what is this! All you can do is rent not buy and it's so expensive, who's gona rent a movie for $5 that's available for max 24 hours while other local movie stores like blockbuster has no late fees and is cheaper? Sure you can hook up your computer to it but the video quality is even more bad and I don't want to be having to leave my expensive 800w system on wasting power while in bed trying to watch a good movie. The netflix stream is so useless, all the movies are so old and can't rent any new releases from them unless you get a dvd from them. So I'm gona have to take my bad product back and have to pay a fee return, thank you so much apple for making me waist my money.

  • Amazingly Simple

I bought the Apple TV about a month ago, and had it set up within a few minutes. The connection to the TV and stereo were simple. Once connected to the internet it was easy to stream Netflix as well as YouTube. I had some issues with the iTunes sharing to start with, but that was solved with the latest version of iTunes. Once that was done, I was able to start playing music throughout the house with a flick of my iPhone! Really great stuff. I'm not going to be a renter from their store - I prefer to purchase/keep instead. Apple also needs to increase the source material for this. I know it takes time to get different network providers to sign up, but they should push it aggressively. It's a really simple product for everything it does. Well worth the $99

  • exceeded my expectations!

Very easy to set up, and I have all the functionality of itunes on my TV. I use the apple remote app and get even better experience. I could go on and on but you can look on the Apple web site for yourself. My wife loves it so much she wants one for the bedroom as well. Apple didn't reinvent the wheel, but they sure put some high performance tires on it!

  • no one can out do apple in product design

i love the apple tv. it's so easy to use, allows me to purchase and watch my favorite tv shows the day after they are aired on television in a matter of seconds, and wirelessly syncs my laptop to my tv so i can be working on a paper upstairs and my boyfriend can still watch his favorite shows from my library downstairs with the apple tv. needless to say it's awesome! and if you are like me and have the ipad and iphone (i love apple products), airplay allows you to sync with apple tv instantly and stream the music or video through your tv with your portable device. i use my apple tv every day, and i would recommend it to every person i meet. i had the first generation model as well, so i am very familiar with the product; the newer model is smaller and is compatible with airplay.

  • Best way to spend 99 dollars...

If you are looking for a way to watch your videos, look at photos or listen to your music library in the living room or bedroom? Then Apple TV is your unit. You simply plug the hdmi cable into your hdmi port on your TV, turn your iTunes on on your PC or Mac. If you have wireless internet you log in, if it it wired then plug that in and your are ready to go! If you miss an episode of Desperate Housewives or other hit show you can rent to episode for as little as 99 cents (in HD!) This little device had my family in awe at thanksgiving. They knew I had been going through my VHS to get them into the PC, but they didn't realize I'd be able to access them 'on demand' right from the living room. Highly-Highly recommended!
